Chris and I timed it using the videos, it was like 16 or so inches in about 1.5 seconds, correct Chris?

Yup, and that's about as far as they'd need to pull with a straight hang. And they had drills rather than CIMs then right?

Sorta. They had 2 F-p, 2 Bosch drill motors, and 2 CIMs (+ some other less powerful motors). So they could have had drills or CIM's.

In my opinion the time it takes to hang (while important) doesn't seem to be as large of a factor as the time it takes to line up for a hang. This is one of the reasons I was for a vertical pole hanging robot from the beginning; if the front of your mechanism is shaped right you can just drive straight at the pole and be set to flip yourself up. If you pull power off your drivetrain to do it, and have the hanging routine sensor-activated to begin as soon as you are latched on, you could hold off of going to hang until the last few seconds of the match. (I don't know if anyone will do this, but it's fun to dream)


That said, 219 has one of my favorite lifting mechanisms so far... they flip upsidedown onto the platform. I only caught it once during the webcast, if anyone has more video I'd love to see it.

The only thing Chris and I wondered about was how much the Poof 04 bot swung around while it was being pulled up, it seemed a bit dangerous. I'm sure they thought about how to stabilize the bot though for Breakaway, if they're using the same method that is.

I must agree, this is the best I have seen to date.

I wonder what a similar design using stored energy to articulate would be like. Time is never a factor then... as long as you release for 'curl' before t=0.

Yeah, i just watched their last match. I saw them kick a ball and hang in all of like 5 seconds. Amazing, quick machine.

Very true. I was watching Pittsburg's last 3 matches and got to see 1114 line itself up and get a bonus 2 points in what was probably the last 4 seconds of the match. I didn't expect it would be that fast, so I kind of missed what it actually did.
