2010 Granite State Regional: A Tournament in Review

As an attendee, I thought the Granite State Regional as a whole was impressive! As the lead scout of Mechanical Mayhem - Team #1519, I'd like to share our scouting data from the tournament, so everyone can see some of what happened at GSR and how Breakaway is played here in New England.

Attached is my team's master excel spreadsheet of scouting data. I've removed all the notes, as they can be slightly more subjective; however, I have left the raw numerical data. To the best of my scouts abilities, this data is accurate. I will concede that all our scouts are human and prone to some errors. This data is missing the first match after lunch on Friday and the last four qualification matches of Saturday, so there are some exceptions.

The spreadsheet may be somewhat confusing - if you have any questions feel free to comment. The columns "single" and "double" refer to the number of zones a ball was advanced. The columns "near", "middle", and "far" refer to the zone from which a goal was scored.

I'd really like to hear people's thoughts about the tournament; however, comments or constructive criticism on our scouting info is good too!

We should make robots to do scouting, as well. Less human error

But then that ends the scouts complaining of sitting down all day while the pit crew complains they have been on their feet all day!

Good job Nathan with your detailed scouting this year, previous years, and in off-season tournaments!

Re: 2010 Granite State Regional: A Tournament in Review

I would like to make a public apology to team 241 and all those who have read my scouting data. Regrettably, our scouting data was particularly inaccurate regarding 241, as they performed far better than this data indicates!

After a couple courteous private messages from a member of 241, it has come to my attention that there is a significant discrepancy between our scouting data and 241's performance. My scouting data indicates that 241's robot was rather ineffective, which is not true! This team member pointed me to two different videos of their robot at GSR; in the first their robot performed well, with 3 single-zone moves and 1 double-zone move, if I remember correctly. In the second video their robot performed even better, completing 5 single-zone moves and another double-zone move (two more doubles were closely impeded by the bump). I am disappointed that our scouting data was so erroneous; however, I am glad to know that 241 competed even more competitively than I had thought! My sincerest apologies for the misinformation!

Team 241 would like to thank Nathan for taking the time to review his data and we accept the apology. We know that it was no ones fault and we are all human. This is not something that he had to do, and we are very thankful for his professionalism during all of this. We very much appreciate him working with us, and wish him and all of team 1519 the best of luck in all of their future endeavors
