A Lot of Quarterfinal Matches

I'm currently at the WPI regional where a 16th quarterfinal match is being played. There were two 2-match rounds, a 5-match round, and a 6-match round that could go longer if they tie again. That got me wondering. Has there been a regional with more quarterfinal matches? Also, are any other regionals experiencing this?

Re: A Lot of Quarterfinal Matches

The amazing thing is that the #2 seeded alliance at WPI played 11 matches during the finals alone -- that's more matches than most teams play in an entire regional.

Re: A Lot of Quarterfinal Matches

That sixth match was nerve-wracking. Though our alliance lost, our students in the stands were sort of relieved! We were on pins and needles by the fourth round - nevermind the sixth.

Re: A Lot of Quarterfinal Matches

I couldnt imagine what you were all going through. We were sitting in our pit trying to keep our drive team focused. We were called on-deck and then held off more than one occasion. We just wanted to know who we were playing! Great job to all those teams.

The nerve-racking thing was two of the four quarterfinals matches went 4+ rounds. Then we finished our 1st semi-final match before the last quater final was over. Its hard to track the actual results, because if you look at the results page on FIRST they dont display more than 3 matches. So the Ties got over-written... but if I remember, one matchup was Tie,Tie,1-blue,tie,1/2-red. Another matchup was Tie,1-blue,1/2red
Then in the Semi-finals - there was a Tie, then 1/2-red.

The whole place was on ther edge of their seat, especailly when there were several last seconf score the whole time. or when the teams traded scores back and forth.

I study martial arts, and in our national tournaments we used to go 2min rounds. If you tied you go another 2 minutes, then another, and so on... eventually the person in the best shape will have the best chance of winning. In the case of robotics, its the team with the most charged batteries

Re: A Lot of Quarterfinal Matches

It was funny, we spent the entire time waiting and eating cookies. Whenwe got out to the field we were worried that if there was going to be more matches our pnumatics system would be empty (We had a small leak). But, for the most part it was pretty intense.
