Mmm...

Right. So I finished part of my new 'unofficial but hopefully official' team website. I really despise the current team page: www.team84.org due to all the lameness. So I decided to create my own using NOBODY ELSES stuff (like dumb guestbooks or image galleries). I decided I wanted an image gallery so I gathered up all my Perl knowledge and created a 250+ line program to make a thumbnailed index of all my pictures in a folder (I also made a small script to upload to that folder...but that was simple). Anyways, after three days, the entire thing is finished. I just finished programming the part where it links to the other pages of images. (That part was the hardest for some reason...) But that is the first program I have ever actually finished and felt proud of. Although I'm sad to think that it will most likely never be used outside of my webserver.

Anyways, since my webpage can't be online 24/7 for you to view nor does my ISP allow cgi-bin or a large amount of storage, I just took a simple screenshort. So here you go:

The webpage looks good. The image viewer is awesome. I'm happy.

Oh yeah...Opera rules. It's better than Netscape for linux. And I don't like mozilla...because it's netscape And konquerer is just...too crappy (and slow...since KDE basically has to start to run it...eww).

Anyone have any constructive criticism for my site? I know not much is shown...but anything unliked...I know the logo is a bit fuzzy. I wanted it to be that way If i'm online, the page is at http://evulish.linux-site.net/chuck and the image gallery is http://evulish.linux-site.net/cgi-bin/bots/viewer.cgi and the code for the viewer.cgi program is at http://evulish.linux-site.net/chuck/viewer.txt . It's really sloppy and redundant code...but hey...I don't care, it works. I doubt anybody will be able to do much with the code...it's uhh...very well documented?

mmm perl.

the only thing i have to say is make the visited link color different.

blue on blue makes it impossible to read the visited link.

other than that -- clean, simple, etc. nice.

Yeah...I'm beginning to fix it. I changed vlink to, ironically, #848484 (I so didn't plan that ) which is obviously a medium shade of grey. (I feel sorry for anyone who doesnt no hex it makes webpages a bit harder)

And those tables SUCKED making. I kept confusing myself with which table I was working with. All of the table codes looked EXACTLY ALIKE! I hope I never have to update the HTML I forgot how to do it after taking a day off working on it...imagine that in 4 or 5 months

Can you upload your site to a free cgi-bin-allowing host? I think www.freewebs.com is one. Or try http://www.clickherefree.com/Free_We..._Directory.htm

I _could_...but I would need to edit LOTS of the code (since it's totally customized for my computer and directories) and I would need lots of space for the images and stuff. I would also need the ImageMagick perl module which not many people have unless it's needed. For now, my PC works well for a server (well...not really, but it's cheap )

As for flash ruling...eww...no. It may be pretty...but other than that...eww. All HTTP browsers support HTML (well...AFAIK ) but not all support a closed-source, undocumented plugin. The flash on team84.org is horrendous. It's so poorly used. I believe they just copied someones premade buttons and change the color and the text. I also like the size of text. 4 bytes is much nicer than 5kb. Flash is also too hard to maintain.

I'll just stick with my pretty HTML For it's an open standard and simple. (The closer I get to being w3c-compliant, the better )
