We had this issue at WPI too. The way it was explained to me is that the goal counters can identify the direction the ball is travelling, such that if a ball gets passed backwards through the goal towards the field, the system will subtract the point that the ball had scored, and assess an automatic penalty. Thanks for the explanation, Evan. This explains the couple of replays we had in Pittsburgh when the same situation occurred.
My next question, if this is an expected piece of functionality why are they replaying matches when it occurs? Also, what rule does this penalty fall under?
