Thats a really cool hang.
I remember you guys working on it at Kettering, but it wasn't quite ready then.
Nice to see its working.

By the way, it kind of looks like its floating.

Re: pic: 67 Hanging Around

Finally someone uploads a picture of our robot! I'm sure if anybody has any questions about how it works, we would gladly answer them.

Did anyone take a picture of the end of Finals 1, with 51, 67, 27, and 201 all hanging at once? That made for a really exciting endgame.

Are you guys really 10WD? With 4 different types of wheels?

Our robot is 8WD with 3 different types of wheels. We have 4 small wheels, 2 in the front and 2 in the back, that only contact the ground when going over the bump. In the middle-front behind the small wheels we have traction wheels, and behind those are slick(er) wheels, so that when we turn we rotate around a point between the 2 traction wheels.

We found that this drive works really well for going over the bumps. In fact, in auton we go over the bump to the next ball just by setting the motors to a constant speed and waiting for an encoder count. I wonder if 1114's 8WD can do that...

Awesome, I always look to you guys for a slick drive train.

In Pittsburgh, 1114 went over the bump in auto mode numerous times.

Re: pic: 67 Hanging Around

HOT has one of the coolest hangs in the competition this year. At first, it looks like a plain old hook-and-winch. But when you know the real secret of this weapon, it is awesome, as in they can raise after the buzzer.

Re: pic: 67 Hanging Around

Very nice looking machine you got there!

I am curious about the two pairs of smaller outside wheels. My team wanted to create a 10 wheel drive with two pairs of raised smaller-diameter outside wheels, very much like the ones on your bot. However, we couldn't get an appropriate sprocket ratio to power those wheels and thus decided against it.

Are you accommodating for the differences in linear velocity due to the different diameters of the wheels with sprockets? With my eyes, it seems that there is a larger sprocket on the larger wheel and a smaller sprocket on the smaller wheel. That seems counter-intuitive to what I would imagine, as I thought that you would need a larger sprocket on the smaller wheel to increase its linear velocity.

Anywho, VERY nice looking 'bot! Congratulations on the two regional wins as well!

Haha yeah as soon as I took this picture I thought about how the majority of FIRST hasn't seen your robot yet, so I wasted no time posting it to CD

And I'm not sure if I got that picture, but I will check. Dan Ernst may have taken one also, but I'm not sure...

EDIT: Dan posted a picture of the quad hang. I will upload it to CD, but in the meantime here is the link.

You need a smaller sprocket on the smaller wheel. The smaller wheel needs to spin faster to cover the same ground as a larger wheel, and when you chain a larger sprocket to a smaller sprocket, the smaller sprocket spins faster.

Re: pic: 67 Hanging Around

I think you should put a ball rebounder on the top like 469 or 51.
Wern't you guys about 90 pounds at Kettering?
Ya, a ball rebounder would be good... you wouldn't have to use it, it would just be to scare the !@#$% out of everybody at states.
I can see it now..."Ohhh Myyy Goddd... ok everybody lets start packing up, we'll try again next year."

Congrates on doing everything possible in breakaway lol over the bump, through the tunnel, kick and score from all three zones, awsome ball magnet, and hang. Wait im missing something... can't wait to see you guys suspend someone at states

Haha... we were going to do something similar... use our wide arm as a bang board to deflect balls. But then we figured out we can't do that. Since our arm is powered by the same motors as our kicker winch, we have to disengage the kicker to move the arm, and the kicker in its rest position is outside the frame perimeter (as seen in the picture). So we can only move the arm in the last 20 seconds of the match.
