Re: Vertical Pipe Hanging
Now the next goal.
Suspending from a robot on the vertical bar. Now that would be impressive I know that 33 is capable of holding up another robot without breaking, but is going for more of a quick hang at the very end. Anyone else able to withstand that kind of forces well hanging or have considered it? |

Re: Vertical Pipe Hanging
Actually, make it four. 973's robot is very much like 254's, with the two-jointed arm design. It wasn't fully functional at SVR. I don't know if they ever used it in a macth, but I saw them elevated on the practice field right before our last qual match (with them, in which they did not hang). But I bet they'll have it working for Vegas!

Then I wonder how it helped them with shooting...

Re: Vertical Pipe Hanging
One of my friends is on that team. They said that their robot has the capability to, once they get the mechanism finished. It works on their practice bot.

Haha, maybe, or destined alliance partners. Scorpio-bot team (I think both of our robots look like scorpions)

Re: Vertical Pipe Hanging
Wow! Very impressive. The more I hear about 343's lifter, the more I like it. It sounds like you guys accomplished so much with such a simple mechanism. Great job!

Re: Vertical Pipe Hanging
Agreed. There is so much torque associated with our robot we must be very careful. (over 450 ft-lbs) Theres lots of value in a simple, elegant design. Nice job 343.

Re: Vertical Pipe Hanging
thanks so much for the kind words!
i was very happy with the success of the design (partly because it was my senior project, and partly because im the driver). it is defenitly one of the more simple, yet very effective designs that we have come up with in our 11 years. we were wondering at first whether it was worth it to go through with a plan we didn't know would work, but we are glad we did.so thanks again guys, it means a lot. makes me feel warm and fuzzy ![]() |

Re: Vertical Pipe Hanging
Hey rush guys, speaking of your arm, how do you power it? I assume either 1 FP or 1 CIM, but I don't know how you are gearing it. As a comparison to yours, we have a CIM geared 12:1 through a DeWalt transmission with backdrive pins, going into part of a 12.5:1 toughbox with 16tooth-72tooth chain. I also noticed two other things about your arm: it lacks a foot and its much longer than ours. I assume the lack of a foot makes little functional difference, but is the long arm to prevent backdriving when power is cut (so the cg is past the shoulder joint, causing the robot to fall into the pole)?
450 ft-lbs you say? Stall or running? We've got over 600 ft-lbs theoretically at stall, assuming no losses. We have only ever hit stall when the analog module ejected from the cRio causing the arm to kill itself (almost). Last edited by apalrd : 24-03-2010 at 20:13. |
