Re: What was your role each year on your team?

2007: Sophomore year; Webmaster, media team, mascot.

This was my first year. I just started late at this new school, and heard a morning announcement regarding a meeting for a robotics team. Interesting. I attended, viewed the prior year's animation video, got hooked ever since.

2008: Junior year; Webmaster, media team, mechanical team, drive team, mascot.

At this point, I did more with the media than the actual robot, but I begin to work with the hand/power tools. Most of my regional time was taking photos and running around in the bearcat suit.

2009: Senior year; Webmaster, lead media. Volunteered at the Buckeye regional.

Not much, really. I stood back that year. We had great seniors leading the programming and mechanical divisions, so I figured I'd have fun and do whatever after finishing the website.

2010: Mentor, webmaster, programmer and programming mentor, t-shirt designer, drive coach, fundraising, events planning/management, recruitment.

My first non-student year, so I had a lot of free time. We had zero programmers this year. One of them graduated, the other (a senior this year) had work too often to help. The programmer role was sort of thrown onto my plate at the last minute (read: Kick-off). We also lost our robotics/metal/wood shop teacher due to budget cuts, and he managed some of the other roles listed here, so myself and our lead engineer (who is the school-appointed team leader) had to split a few of those roles. The sudden changes were a bit overwhelming, but we're pretty strong right now, especially with more school/district support now.

We've been a relatively small team since I've been involved, so I've always had to pull multiple roles. It's really not as bad as it sounds, though.

Graduated High School

2007- (Team 1568) Programming mentor and Drive Coach. (Team 1493) Propulsion team mentor, designed two speed transmission that was built into the chassis wall.

2008- (Team 1493) Control Team Mentor, focused mainly on Autonomous, sensors and scripting code. (Team 1350) Helped out at beginning and end of season with Strategy/Design as well as Programming and Debugging.

2009- (Team 1665) Lead Programming mentor, also helped with wiring and control system design. (Team 1350) Helped out at beginning and end of season with Strategy/Design as well as Programming and Debugging.

2010- (Team 3280) Programming and Control Mentor. Also worked with both of the schools FTC teams.

Over my three years working with teams around RPI I also spent a fair amount of time writing and debugging software for other teams in the area.

I have also worked with FLL teams since 2006.

Re: What was your role each year on your team?

2009: mechanical worker and scouting lackie, not much to say about that year.
2009 off-season: Took up job of Scouting coordinatior for my teams only off season event. Ran scouting at our off season and helped my team make it to the finals where sadly we lost by 1 moon rock.
2010 Official Scouting coordinator. Now my team's crate of scouting supplies lives with me, next to my computer. I completely re-vamped the scouting system my team had making it more efficient and more fun. With the help of a mentor who was a former team member and his brother (a freshman) we were able to successfully introduce a new form of scouting: video Scouting where we were able to record matches for scouting purposes. Thanks to my new system and the awesome scouting ability of my team we were able to make the semi's at our last event. In addition to all that i am the only non-senior driver on my team, currently back-up driver.

Re: What was your role each year on your team?

2004/2005-FLL, I don't really remember that much... (The Inventioneers)

2005/2006-FLL, we only had 4 students, so we all did it all. (The Inventioneers)

2006/2007-FLL, Had lots of fun. I did it all, but our team really started outreach this year. (The Inventioneers)

2007/2008-FLL, Same thing... (The Inventioneers)
-FRC, I was Safety Captain and helped with wiring. I didn't get a chance to do much programming as I was still busy with the 2007 FLL season. (Team 2342, Team Phoenix)

2008/2009-FLL, This was my final year as an FLL participant. At my last tournament I cried because I knew I was going to miss my FLL team SOOOOOO much when my family moved to Australia. (The Inventioneers)
-FRC, I was the Safety Captain and in charge of Autonomous mode. I also helped with wiring. (Team 2342, Team Phoenix)

2009/2010-FLL, I moved into a mentor/judge role. I mentored 4+ FLL teams and judged at the New South Wales States, and Australian National FLL tournaments. I also talked at the NZ pilot FLL tournament and was a volunteer.
-FRC, I was the Team Captain and helped in all areas of the team. I tried (with a little success) focusing on electrical, but I also helped with mechanical, programming, animation, buissness, communications, fundraising, travel, public speaking, t-shirts, and anything else that was needed!!! (Team 3132, Thunder Down Under)

2010/2011-FLL I hope to continue in a mentor/judge role, I don't think I could ever give FLL up. It started me on a path that has been amazing, and if I could give that to more students, I would be very happy.
-FRC, I will be a participant, I imagine doing whatever needs to be done again. I hope to pass on my knowledge to the younger students we will have coming in so when I am done with FRC in 1-2 years there won't be a gap in knowledge. (Team 3132, Thunder Down Under)

Re: What was your role each year on your team?

In 2008 I started my first year at Francis Tuttle's Pre-Engineering Academy in Oklahoma. It was there first year trying a mentoring program in which they assign a returning student to a new student to show them around and give them any help they require throughout the year. My mentor turned out (By complete randomness) to be a fellow home-schooler. A week or so later he walked up to me and told me about a robotics team he was on. (It was a BEST team) I decided to join after a few meetings.

We won 1st place in the Robot Competition and 1st place in the BEST Award at OKC BEST. We then won 2nd place in FT Smith with our robot. While at Ft. Smith I was told about a team that some of the students from BEST do. It was called FIRST. I said sure I'll give it a try. Turned out to be the most fun I had ever had.

Now during the time between our state and regional competition we wanted to try and put something fun in the pit. Because of this I was playing with a bunch of wiring. In doing so I caught the team captain's eye(Also the team captain on the FIRST team)

2009: Electrical Team Captain
2010: Team Captain and CAD guy
2011: No idea yet.... I'll be starting a new team though.

2 years on the team.. Still fun haha

10th grade - 2009: Chassis Lead designer and machinist. Fabricated most of the plates and parts on El Toro XII and Inventorized our chassis from 2009. I was in the pit crew as well.

11th grade - 2010: Mechanical Lead and machinist. I was in charge of getting all things mechanical done on the robot, which I did not really succeed with, and teaching the rookies during our offseason trainings. Also did some volunteering at FLL events, Toys for Tots, and at Calgames (field reset)
