Jaguar Problems with Movement

Hello,

Lately our jaguars have boon having problems with sharp movements and the like. Everytime we try to start to fast, go full speed, it will stop, but if we start slower, it works. The only thing I can think of is that a wire is getting diosconnected from something (pertaining to the jaguars) when it gets bumped to hard or starts too fast. This was going on for a while, but then we lost all function of a joystick connected to the right motor of the robot (only one motor and jaguar). Now, all the jaguars are working except for one, and its a grey jaguar with a yellow/orange blinking light.

Please help!

Re: Jaguar Problems with Movement

How's your battery? If the voltage drops too low -- which it can do if you're calling for sudden motor movement -- the system will be disabled.

Re: Jaguar Problems with Movement

It's hard to figure out what is happening unless you are very explicit in your description.

However, if only one motor is affected, you could have too large of a load on it and either tripping the circuit breaker or causing the Jag's internal protection to kick in.

Please try to explain exactly what you are seeing...

Re: Jaguar Problems with Movement

You should also check the db37 from the CRio to the DSC, and the 3 wire PWM cables from the DSC to the Jaguars. It is very easy to damage the PWM wires, so you could try replacing the PWM wire to the disabled Jaguar.

Re: Jaguar Problems with Movement

We had the same problems, I'm pretty sure ours had something to do with the internals of the jags, we switched to victors and everything has been working since then

Re: Jaguar Problems with Movement

Their is one thing to watch out for, and we had this problem early into the build season as-well. The jag's were tripping out at 100%, it wasn't code nor a jag or CIM motor problem but the power going to the Digital side car from the Power distribution board. The 12v and 5v power LED'S were not on, and the jag's that were tripping out were not getting enough power. The best fix for this is to change the power cables for the DSC, and the WAGO connector, hopefully your DSC will get all the power it needs to keep all jag's powered.

Re: Jaguar Problems with Movement

Ted,
You are describing several different problems. As pointed out above, the DSC could have power issues, the multi pin connector could be loose or the Jaguar could be in protect mode. In the latter, the LED comes on red for 3-4 seconds while the output is disabled. Protect mode can occur due to high temps, high current, low power supply or limit switch jumper is open. It is also possible that you have metal flakes down inside the Jaguar.
You do not indicate that you are running PWM or CAN so a loose PWM connector can have similar issues. There is no LED on the Jaguar that flashes orange/yellow. There is a red/yellow flash that indicates a failure in the calibration mode.

Out of curiosity, what is your gearing in your drivetrain?

We have seen this problem as well. From the indications of the LED on the jag, it's an overcurrent condition. This is documented in the user guide. Our machine uses the CAN bus for control; we will be testing to see if using PWM makes any difference (I don't think so).

Re: Jaguar Problems with Movement

My old team had this problem about 20 minutes later I remembered the previous year. The programmer was redoing his code all meeting to figure out the problem. He finally switched the battery, everything worked fine. So we repeated he thoughts. And there we go. The left drive train stopped dropping out.

Chris_is_me: We are using 2 CIMs driving 4 wheels through a Banebots P80 12:1 transmission. This is the 1st year we haven't used 4 CIMs for drive.
