Robot Recycle

Hello,
As a rookie team we destroyed many parts of the robot.
1. The main module of the Crio is broken but working.
2. The camere looks bad but working.
3. 1 Digital SideCar is half working (some DIO's are not working).
4. The compressor is broken.
5. The preasure switch is not caliberated.

What should we recyle from this year's robot?
I think the Crio and, router and the camera.
but unfortunatly some of this are not in it's best condition to work for many years. what should we do? I am aware that some of this things won't be in next year KOP.

Try to not do that.

A rookie team gets one cRio and one compressor, and you are expected to use them again next year. Possibly the camera as well.

By allowing them to be "destroyed", you've cost the team a considerable sum. (By "you" I mean the team, not you personally). Take this as a lesson that had to be learned the expensive way: Take very good care of your things, otherwise you won't have them anymore.

Better start fundraising.

Re: Robot Recycle

Definitely reuse the camera. If it just looks bad, design next year's robot to hide the camera.
Also, reuse the pressure switch. Just calibrate it for next year.
As far as your cRio, if it works use it. If it doesn't work, see if it is under warranty.
Try to be gentler on the parts next year. It pays off over time.

Re: Robot Recycle

Don't throw the side car away. Make sure you document what DIO's are not working for next year and keep it for prototyping.

Here is this year's comparison between the veteran and rookie KOP. This year, veterans got 1 digital side car instead of two. Here is the KOP checklist http://usfirst.org/uploadedFiles/Com...klist_RevC.pdf.

You can reuse most of the stuff. As long as you can get the parts commercially during the season, you can use them. Many of the motors can be reused as long as they have not changed the model. CIM's usually don't change, the smaller motors often do. You have to check carefully. We also write the year on all our parts. It's ugly, but it keeps us legal.

I know you have figured this out already, but next year protect those electronics. Of course, I say this after I let the team delay putting a rollbar on the prototype. They were so eager to try the bump. We all just stood there and watched it tip. We took out the digital IO module that way.

In case you have an extra $750 dollars sitting around (haha) you might want to think about getting a second cRIO. They are 1/2 price for FIRST teams.
