Unfortunately, team 1477 will not be presenting this year. I think they will gear up for next year.

Have we established that there will be a webcast for Lone Star?

Ya combine it with 230's instant replay and 987 DVR functionality and we would have something truly amazing and professional done on a amateur's budget. Keep up the great work everyone, I am truly impressed with the quality of webcasts this weekend.

Re: Lonestar Regional 2010

I must say, compared to the other webcasts I've seen, Lonestar was BY FAR, the best one. Excellent Job.

As to the robots, congratulations to all of the robots in the finals. I couldn't tell what was going on with 148's roller, but it was nice to see them battle it out and work with their partners to garner a win.

Also props to the finalists for giving the first seed a run for their money for all 3 finals matches.

The ball sensor was bent in for Final 3. As a result, the robot thought we had a ball in the intake for the entire match; and the intake would not suck in. This is why the autonomous sat in place. This is why we REALLY had difficulty in Final 3. Luckily for us, 118 played an amazing match in a virtual 3v1 situation, and sealed the deal. Ugly wins still count, right? 148 <3 118.

-John

PS - We're (of course) redesigning the ball sensor mount, and also adding a control override for the intake. That failure will NOT happen again. However, we're really good at finding new failures!

JW John, what exactly is the method you guys are using to sense a possessed ball? I currently have the denso running even with the ball in possession. Is there a reason why you didn't just let it run?

Thanks,
Akash

Um...Really? Here are a couple of reasons why *we* don't let the motor run. I'm not sure what Mr. Neun's reasons are.

1. Don't want to stall the motor. Stalling the motor = BAD. During the finals at Palmetto, our sensor wasn't tripping as well, and the window motor was stalling. We could smell it from the drivers station. 343 was nice enough to spray their freezing blast onto our window motor before each match, or we would've been more toast. (pun intended )

2. In some instances with a particularly-not-well-inflated ball, the ball will get sucked into the robot further than 3". (That is of course if you're not using a hard backing). Which, if you are facing a physical backing, then you'll more than likely stall the motor, and then you're back to reason 1.

Our method is that the backing for the ball is hinged, so when the ball comes in, the backing goes in with the ball. And then at the appropriate 3", the backing trips a switch, which turns off the motor.

When I last saw it, it looked like they were using an IR beam of some sort. (Think of a garage door opener.)

Great job to 148, 118, and 647. Those finals matches had some definite heart stoppers.

Also, great job to 624, 704, and 3103 for putting up a valient fight.

Re: Lonestar Regional 2010

For me, the mark of a good match is the show of determination, good coaching, and grit. We saw a lot of that in these teams.

Congratulations to all of the award winners. Well done.
A special congratulations to FRC 2881 on the Judges' Award - you made Austin proud! Congratulations to 118 on the Chairman's!

Congratulations to 418's, Danny Diaz, on the 2010 Lone Star Regional Woodie Flowers Finalist Award. I know first hand, the amount of work and effort that Danny puts into FLL in our region and the amount of work, effort, inspiration, and encouragement that he brings to 418. I'm sure his wife, Dawn, and his daughter, Olivia, are very happy to see his tireless contributions recognized in such an awesome way.

Lone Star added two Dean's List Finalists to the group:
Ashvin Bashyam from FRC 2583 and Carlos Pineda from FRC 1480. Congratulations and well done.

The webcast was wonderful; kudos and thanks to the addition of the color commentary and interviews. That was a welcome and awesome addition and I hope to see more of that in our future.

Well done Lone Star,
Jane
