Re: Newton Division 2010

Dave gives some of the best speeches in all of FIRST. In 2008, he gave the perfect storm speech, in was the best 5 minutes all friday. Then last year as he presented the links between the final 6 robots on einstien, which isnt to hard considering 4 were from michigan. Even this year at the state championships, he throws out teams historys left and right. Truely and world class person and MC!

Re: Newton Division 2010

Since we can't seem to get this up on TBA, here is a link to the Palmetto regional. http://www.clemson.edu/tlt/stream/frc/video.html
281, 342, 343 were at this event and are now attending Newton.

343 has been working on a better ball magnet and hanger. The ball magnet "floats." Stop by the pit and see what I'm talking about, or see it on Isaac....

Re: Newton Division 2010

1551 is:

Mecanum drive (4 CIM), with assistive Andymark wheels for hump transversal.
Dual-wheel, side-grabbing ball controller.
Two-speed kicker, adjustable in-game.
Multiple autonomous modes (upgraded from Regional)
The most consistent hanger at FLR -- about six seconds off the top or side bar (in the corner).
Self-righter (which we didn't at any point need.)

We very strongly prefer to start in the middle zone, but can clear balls from the far into the close zone, and can score in the close or middle zones (which we could do before, but can now do even better with our New Improved Kicker(TM)).

You're forgetting 1718 (one of the top scorers in the country), 1922, 1868, 1592, 910 (MI powerhouse), 868, 801...etc..

We may not have most of the big dogs, but we definitely have some of the best middle of the pack robots. I can see 67 and 1718 pairing up to take the division. Along with 11 as a last pick. Right right right?

1718 is definitely excited to be back to the Championship for the first time since we won RAS in 2006 - We were Newton then and we're back on Newton again (assuming the list stays mostly the same).

Re: Newton Division 2010

I can see 801,1902 and 1592 take the win, ecpecially if 801 can get their hanging mechanism(which has yet to be seen by me, but is on their card)

but I am slightly biased

I think you've got it nailed! However, just to add to that, don't forget team 20, winners of the WPI Regional, as a 910-esque close zone scorer. And also, team 525 won Kansas City against a stacked alliance of 16 and 1625. Teams 1727 and 3123 teamed up to win the DC Regional, and 399 isn't that bad of a scorer. 2771 is an amazing close zone scorer despite not having a ball grabber or kicker. Finally, team 2669 racked up the scores at the Israel Regional, and won that event.

Re: Newton Division 2010

Having competed against 971 and 668 at SVR, and 294 at San Diego, we're definitely excited about Atlanta this year!

Actually, we're pretty surprised and excited about the whole thing. We only got off the waiting list last Friday so it's been a bit of a mad scramble to diagnose problems we thought we had months for in only two weeks.... But we're ready to make a splash and have a great time at Championships!

Personally, since Mark Leon is in and out of our and 254's lab all the time, and we love him, it would be great if he were our MC. But I think he only ever does Curie, so 469 and my school team 192 get him instead.

Clearly you guys can tell I didn't do a close analysis of the event.

20's actually a pretty versatile robot, as they can play a decent midfield game as well. Never really at the level of 67 or 16, but they kicked a few balls up and over. They seeded 2nd at WPI despite code problems for the first half of the event, but with all this time they should definitely be at full performance.

Does anybody know if this match list is real? I didnt remember them publishing it before the event started, so I thought it might be a test pairing...

If he's the one who dies his hair blue for Championship we definitely had him on Newton last year.

FYI Blair always does Galileo and I think Chiniqua did Archimededs until last year when unless I'm mistaken she didn't do a Championship field.

Oh, we should also try to be the other fields with our post count in this thread... Curie is in the lead right now, we're close behind.
