Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system

"team #### is requesting that anyone who has any information on the whereabouts of their robot please report up here... thank you."

i was considering asking that when our robot didnt come back from its qualification match at the GTR. turns out we were just stopped by inspectors.

Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system

We were having a rough time getting our programming to work so we asked for a working code and also for a working robot. I think we also had someone go ask for more time.

The pit admin loved us at Dallas and we started joking around with one of our mechanical guys (because he was always the one to give stuff away) saying that she had a thing for him.

Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system

Since metric crescent wrenches do exist, I propose a change to Adjustable metric crescent wrench since they DO NOT exist

It would be unfortunate if a team actually needed one and pit admin didn't believe them, or people didn't take the announcement seriously. So, we should stop crying wolf. even if they aren't likely to find one anyway.

Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system

Being the pit announcer at FL for the past few years (and NYC before that) has been a lot of fun. I apologize for the lack of humor this year; wasn't feeling too hot. Best things teams asked for:

their drivers
a break
flux capacitor
horse
their robot

If you think up something funny for "Please get your robot inspected," or "Please take your robot to the field," please let me know!

"The inspectors found a valuable robot part at the inspection station. If you think it might be yours, bring your robot so that they can verify that it is."

(The valuable robot part? An inspection sticker. Without a very cheap piece of sticky paper, the $5000+ robot can't compete.)

"Teams X, Y, and Z. If you are not at the field in the next minute, we will orient the queuing wormhole to appear in your respective pits. This will grab your robots, your team members, and all your tools. Due to a minor error, only the robots and drive teams will ever be seen again."

Oh, and my favorite pit-clearer:
"Team X is heading out of the pit. Please follow them. Thank you." Best used at pit closing.

This year, we have our roommates assigned to us at the hotel instead of picking them ourselves.

I might ask for new roommates.

Also, my friend just came up with one:

The wives of the mentors of Team 386 would like their husbands back asap.

Other ones from the Wisconsin Regional are a wood welder, heartworm pills/a milk bone for a team's watchdog, and a metric, left-handed, flathead screwdriver.
Thsoe were all great. I'm in the library at school atm (study hall). People are staring aat me because I'm trying to stifle my laughing.

Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system

the ones I hear the most often are "flux capacitor" (my team did this the most, of course. lol) and also making the announcement that everyone lost the game. And then you hear a pit-wide groan. fun times! lol.

"Team 2879 would like 70 feet of uninsulated platinum wire, a fishing pole, a 30x50 piece of plywood, two flux capacitors, a helium/argon laser, an FTL drive, and two spare car tires. Don't worry, it's not what you think"

I am totally doing this next year

Next year, I really want to say "Team 1306 would like everyone to know that they're never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around, or hurt you."
