Actually, is looks like a tip on a regular segway would be worst. If this falls, you jump to your feet. On a regular segway (assuming some oddball complete failure which is very rare) you would end up doing a face plant.

If this falls backward, it's far worse than the segway...

At champs, 461 had a homemade segway made out of 80/20 and lexan, and powered by CIM motors. According to them, it cost about $800, including the fancy $400 lithium-ion batteries.

Eeek, Lithium ion is daaangerous. They should be using Lithium Iron Phosphate. Much more stable, and just as light/energy dense.

Check out Ping Battery for some good ones.
