National Chairman's Predictions

I'm wondering what people's predictions are on the National Chairman's for this year? Who's likely to be in the running?

My vote is the same as last year. Team 234, Cyber Blue is one of my favorite teams and I can't think of anyone who deserves the award more than them. Good luck to all the teams presenting the CA.

I have a feeling they're going Canadian this year with either 188 or 1114.

Re: National Chairman's Predictions

Daisy is down the street from me and they have a strong program. I get to see first hand some of their outreach, so they are in the running.

On the other hand there have been a number of CA/EI award winners this year. I'm going to go with one of them, 1511-Rolling Thunder.

Re: National Chairman's Predictions

My predictions are never right. I do know that the team that will be honored with the 2010 Chairman's will be deserving and will continue to strive as a Hall Of Fame team. The HoFs and their accomplishments never cease to amaze and inspire.

Re: National Chairman's Predictions

I have a prediction I'm not sharing, but I will be wearing their shirt tomorrow :-). In reality I think there are three lead candidates all of whom have already been mentioned in this thread. No matter who wins I look forward to the inspiration of their example.

I think it's a three team race between 234, 341, and 612.

That would be simply amazing, both of those teams have done so much to foster FIRST in Canada. If I would have to choose one of those two I would say 1114 has a better chance because of how active they have been in the past couple years. Not to discount 188's great work, but 1114 has won 4 Regional Chairman's Awards in the last 5 years.

I still think a team like 341 or 234 probably have a bit better chance. A lot of the decision comes down to that chairmans presentation, either way it goes a deserving team will win.

I am going with 341. I was blown out of the water, seeing their presentation in philly.

Re: National Chairman's Predictions

1114 'ought to win it. In my mind, they're the most deserving team here.

Just walk by their pit, and look at the "Simbot Effect" map.

They've covered a lot of territory, all the way to Germany!

No offense intended towards 1114, who's one of the truly exceptional teams in FIRST and one of my biggest inspirations on and off the field. But a "Simbot Effect" map isn't proof by itself that they're the most deserving team. I know of teams who've had similar maps that stretched to Israel, Greece, and New Zealand who got passed up even at the regional level. There's a lot more to it than just who and how many places you've impacted.

That being said, I would not be shocked to see 1114 win and there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that 1114 will be in the hall of fame some day, and likely some day soon.

And if you were to make the maps for 234, 341, and 612, I think you'd be equally impressed.

Re: National Chairman's Predictions

There are ways to create reasons for surface maps and reasons to dig deeper in the areas that you explore, want to help develop, and make a lasting impact. A surface map showing the areas that are being explored and developed or tapped into - is a good visual. The depth of the lasting impact and development is harder to see but no less real.

Just a thought with no one in particular in mind. As I said, I'm lousy at predictions and always happily surprised and pleased.
