So its like battlebots?

It's the question we are all asked but is so rarely caught on video. Congratulations to FTC 2818 on being the most recent recipient of this question.

Re: So its like battlebots?

Haha, Team 1293 (FRC) was sponsored and later interviewed on a live webcast by a company that thought we were battlebots. They said something to the effect of, "Y'all need to put a rifle or something on it." Classic.

"Later interviewed"? You mean they didn't ask any questions before throwing money at you? man, I'd love those sponsors

Re: So its like battlebots?

I always say "<S-02> takes precedence" and tehn explain how we can't harm other robots or the field without getting kicked out of the competition. Then I go on about how it would be amizing if we could do such things... let the flamethrowers come out!

we got to remind people how if we could destroy other robots, then no one could even make it to world championships.

Re: So its like battlebots?

LOL!!! Thats great... you have no idea how many times i've been asked that question. (No more than anybody else in FIRST, im sure)
Whenever I go to sponsers the first question is often "Oh! you're from that program where the robots have to destroy each other, right?!!" Nooo............. sorry.....

Re: So its like battlebots?

haha. last year durring the florida regional i was in the eleveator with a friend from my team, two guys from another team and some girls that were in orlando for a cheer leading competition. in the most sterotypical ditsy voice you can image on girl asked "who are all you guys with the numbers on your shirts, are you like a bike team or someting?" my friend answered, "no were robotics teams, we have a competition here." she replies with "so like battle bots on tv?" at this point a kid from the other team jumps in with a "yeah exactly like that"
