Teams That Stood Out To Me

This being my first year on a team and after attending the Salt Lake Regional, Volunteering at the LA Regional, attending the Las Vegas Regional ( won chairmans!!!) and finally got to the Championships at Atlanta a few teams stood out amongst the rest whether it was robot use/design, the team members, or other reasons. So I'll name off the teams that stood out to me and list the reason. (these are in no particular order)
Robot
Team 1538, The Holy Cows: I had heard the rumors about this team's skill and was blown away at Utah on how well the robot was handled. That thing was a tank!
Team 330, the beach bots: seeing them lift at LA was amazing! One of the fastest lifts ever!
Team 254, the Cheesy Poofs: all around awesome robot!
Team 294, Beach Cities Robotics.
Team 2993, the Megabots.
Team 148, Robowranglers: Our team drooled over ur bot for a week during build season.
Team 2429.

Team Members
Team 1569, Haywire:You guys made Utah a blast!
Team 753, High Desert Droids
Team 509, Red Storm: for having awesome costumes and being easy to talk to.
Team 2484, Implosion.

Other Stuff
Team 1266, the Devil Duckies: Awesome hair and spirit gear
Team 1622, team spyder: one couldnt go far without seeing one of their safety pins/magnets
Team 233, the pink team: lol ur guys outfits were crazy. Definitely didnt expect to see a all pink team.

These were the teams that stood out to me personally. No offense to any teams that I didnt mention that I didnt give a little shout out all of the teams were awesome and I cant wait till next year!

Please comment on which teams stood out to you!

ATLANTA:

2893 Daedalus Project's Pit, it was to say the least elegant, flashy, and simple!
1902 Exploding Bacon's chant, "Oink Oink Boom!" is simply something nobody will forget!
365 Miracle Workerz' bright neon green colors and massive mascott costume!
79 Krunch creating everyone's team name from their own! I nearly jumped with delight in our pitt when I saw a likeness of Blue Cheese written from their letters!
217 Thunder Chickens's robot, simply incredible!
3196 SPORK is no question one of the best looking rookie teams I have ever seen! Unique and Happy are words that jump to me when I think of them.

I know I am forgetting some, so I will let some other people continue on I think...

Re: Teams That Stood Out To Me

469 - It had to be said. Their bot completely changed the game and forced every team that had a remote chance of playing against them to start developing strategies. They did an amazing job, and it was awesome playing against them in both the MSC finals and the Einstein finals.

294 - A team I never really thought about before came out of nowhere to take #1 seed at Newton then play some awesome defense through the rest of the competition.

177 - How many consecutive trips to Einstein do you guys have?

1114 - The most insane hanger I saw all year.

910 - For giving us candy during the Newton qualifiers Thanks for that.

70 - They went from 24th pick at the Kettering District to alliance captains at the Wayne State district and MSC. Awesome job guys.

217 - For some amazing defense on 469 during the MSC finals.

2834 - For scoring everything 217 blocked in the MSC finals Wish we had picked you.

1718 - For an awesome series of matches in the finals. You guys did awesome. Plus you have my favorite button - the pi-kachu

That's all I have for now.

Re: Teams That Stood Out To Me

In my mind teams that stood out (mostly limited to MI teams)

51 - Great way to start off a new number.

469 - for 7 years you guys have had my admiration, this year when I needed help with something you guys were there. I heard you had a pretty good robot too.

67 - Kettering reminded me of why you guys are a HoF team. Thank you for discussing how you solved problems. (Also, a pretty good robot I heard)

33 - I would be a bad person if I didn't mention these guys. Jim and Issac, you guys are great. Thanks for all your help with everything and putting up with my constant questions. To your students, every single one of you I interacted with wowed me. (Again, I heard they had a pretty good robot too)

2992 - I didn't see their robot but for some reason this team stood out to me. I think I recall reading several posts by members that show they get FIRST. (And I think your students were confused when I started asking about your robot in scholarship row)

201 - Your hang was slick and your arm was cool.

68 - While it was an off year for you guys I did not see or hear a single student complaining. (Plus, you guys are fun to hang out with)

1501 - I didn't see your robot in person but it was one of the most unique machines I saw pictures of this year.

1114 - One thing that continues to impress me about this team is their use of simple mechanisms. They have a simple robot and well trained drivers.

70 - Epitomizes CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT.

1718 - As LF said, you guys were HOT-lite. Honestly, I can't think of a better compliment. Amazing year.

27 - I can't leave my old team off as a team that stood out to me. Possibly the most competitive robot I have seen from RUSH in a couple years.

I've seen HOT at Champs before and was always impressed, but never got to know you. Thanks for your brilliant play on Newton and Einstein. Here's a Web page that tells a bit about our experience this year in Atlanta:

Re: Teams That Stood Out To Me

I went around all the pits hunting for buttons (Trick or Treat!) and a few stood out in my mind.

Team Drivin: That projected sign you guys had always caught my eye.

Spartronics: I was looking for a bag and I found you guys, I found the bags and some nice people.

Buzz: I walked passed your pits sooo many times

Aluminum narwhals: I smiled every time I saw you guys

Pirates (1584): didn't have any buttons, but it was a nice visit

3158: You guys had a lot of hand outs, I was surprised when she kept givin' me more

33: I love the antennas, I have some on my speaker right now

Spork 3196: odd name, but nice people and the button was very creative!

Moe: who doesn't love a free face painting?

2534: you guys had sharpies

Re: Teams That Stood Out To Me

1912 - Your robot was small, efficient and effective, but I loved your pit. It looked like you guys created a mini warehouse and all I could do when I saw it (both times at Bayou and Lone Star) is think of is how hard it must be to take it down.

118 - For starters, I love how your pit is the tallest. (makes it visible from basically anywhere) You guys played some pretty awesome defense in the elims at Lone Star. I can't think of her name but one of your students was so nice and helpful. My younger brother (who is starting to get interested in FIRST) was looking at the display monitor you guys had at your pit showing the suspension that you had on your robot and she noticed he was looking confused about it and she came over (while they had many people there talking to them) and took the time to explain how it worked to where he could understand it. That was all he wanted to talk about on the way home. What impressed me the most was the numerous teams you guys made bumpers for. When I was helping my team scout teams, I noticed a lot of teams had bumpers made by you. I don't know if you guys came with a bunch already made or you went back the first night and made enough for everyone.

148 - Awesome robot. Hands down. You guys never fail to amaze not just me, but everyone with the quality and design of your robots. I just wish we didn't have to play AGAINST you so much

57 - Your design this year was well thought out. It sucked when you couldn't get anyone up the ramp at Bayou (even though we did on the practice field ) but at Lone Star, you had everyone out of there seats when you got your alliance partner (sorry for not knowing the team number ) on to the platform. It would have been awesome if they had stayed up there. lol

3103 - I don't know where to begin. Last year, you made it to the finals. This year you made it to the finals again and was sooo close to winning it. You guys came back this year and built off the momentum and experience you gained last year. I also have to give you kudos for the best defense I saw all season against 148. You guys really did help your alliance have a shot to win it all. I hope you guys build off of another great season and I'll see you again next year!!

2881 - Just like 3103, you guys came back and picked up where you left off last year. There weren't many hangers at Lone Star but you guys were the first and the most consistent throughout the whole competition. You GALS really showed that you can HANG around with the guys.

624 - You guys always show class. Even though I've only been apart of FIRST for two years, I have yet to see you guys angry or mad over anything. You all are always calm and cool and always have a high quality robot. By the way, your pit is awesome too!!!

My fellow mentor and I have been on Chief Delphi quite a bit over the last few weeks doing our best to contribute to the community. We've learned quite a bit over the last few weeks, and have really enjoyed chatting with members in the community. As for our robot, if you saw a ginormous fire engine red robot then you probably saw our robot. I don't recall any other's as tall and bright. :-)

The robots that stood out to me are the standard:

1114 as the awesome scorer and hanger

469 as the perfect rendition of what we were trying to do

but also robots like 2337, which I was looking out for since they were also known to be a deflector/looper bot.

Ever since last year at the Bayou, I've always kept an eye out for Cryptonite which had a pretty good robot.

I visited many of the pits during our time in Atlanta but I honestly have a hard time remembering many of the robot teams. Atlanta is always overload for me and so I can't remember the numbers and teams as well as I should. Needless to say I leave the scouting and all to the students. :-)

I had a coworker/friend who volunteered on Archimedes and I heard over and over again that 33 was a really good robot.

I also remember 888's robot mostly because our Bayou alliance partner was brought in as the backup robot for their alliance. I also remember this because it put us as the next backup robot. :-)

Overall there are so many awesome robots at Atlanta that you could almost keep listing them indefinitely. The fields are just so deep with goodness.

After playing offense throughout the qualifiers to capture the #1 seed, then sticker in the quarter finals, then defensive midfielder with the occasional Breakaway in the Newton elims, we saved our best attribute for last - our defense!

Re: Teams That Stood Out To Me

1124

First of all, their robot was great. quick. fantastic on defense for most of WPI, and great on offense in Hartford.

Second of all, STYLIN!
i know our drive loved wearing their capes in a match we had together.

In all seriousness, the uberbots were very gracious and professional. we had a lot of fun competing with them! congrats!

469, 1114, 33, 148, 217, 1718: all amazing teams for all the reasons that have already been stated. Some new teams I'd like to mention:
3357 COMETS: Awesome robot, awesome team.
3234 Red Arrows: I loved your robot. It both performed well and looked good.

20 - A class act. I already made a nice post about them, go find it.

177 - Continuous improvement elevated to an art form. Smart people with a good robot and a complete willingness to leave it ALL on the field.

217 - I went over just to grab a picture of their magnet and I was given a complementary robot tour without even having to ask. How cool is that?

51 - Apparently there's this Chris Hibner guy on their team who's rather friendly and cool to talk to. Who'dathunkit?
