Re: Teams That Stood Out To Me

I could list a bunch of robots that stood out as well, but I'm going to take it as the title states. The TEAM that stood out the most to me was by far, 148. At the Dallas regional, I watched their team members go into and work on 37 different robots just to get them up and running by the start of competition on Friday. 2 weeks later in Houston, they were doing the same thing. They were always at the inspection station, asking the progress of all the teams, and sending their team members to the pits to get all the robots through inspection and on the field.

They never asked anything for themselves, and a lot of teams owe them a lot for their fantastic professionalism this year. I was surprised that they were not awarded the Gracious Professionalism for their efforts at either contest.

Re: Teams That Stood Out To Me

My second favorite team to watch was 86, team Resistance from Florida. They were quite unique in there ability to roll over and land on there wheels while being able to score.

Re: Teams That Stood Out To Me

503-Frog Force stood out to me after talking with a few of their team members and mentors. They put so much effort into their robots and their pits that this team truly amazes me. The amount of extra effort they put into community activities and other engineering projects is astounding! In Atlanta, they had this incredible programmable LED cube that can be used to make 3-dimensional animations a drivable robot chassis. Really amazing team.

27-RUSH, also had an awesome robot and also notable for their community efforts. Not only did the robot kick butt, but it looked really sleek to boot.

469-Las Guerrillas, Because even now I still can't get over how incredible their robot is.

67- HOT team not only had a great robot, but a drive team with enough experience to flawlessly maneuver the robot and score goals. Incredible robot.

2337- Holy cow have these guys' robot improved as the season progressed.

Oh man can this list go on and on. So many great teams this year.

Every time team 86 was up my entire team would react with "Do a Barrell Roll!"

Re: Teams That Stood Out To Me

I'm flattered that 2429 made your list of teams that stood out, Shishkaa. Thank you very much!

As for robots that stood out to me, I'd like to nominate team 1717. They had an amazing lifter, an amazing drive system, and a great ball handling system that I didn't see many other teams using. Overall, it was one of the best-looking and performing robots I saw over the course of the season.

Re: Teams That Stood Out To Me

1717: The way you guys run strategy before each match is very impressive. I've done strategy on my team for 4 years and I thought I was solid from my experience at regionals and championship but sitting down and talking out our match with you guys was a great learning experience and changed my perception on what you can figure out before every match.
Also you guys had one of the coolest hangers of the year. Using a gas spring to push off of the platform was a brilliant idea.

1625: 6 wheel vector drive was a very cool idea and you did a great job implementing it. You rarely find that the kids are the ones who design and build the robots on such a consistently successful team but from talking to the students on your team I could tell that, that was the case.

2130: It was fun talking to you guys right before our first match and seeing your excitement for attending championship for the first time. You guys were all crazy enthusiastic and it was hard to tell from how you played that it was your first time at the championship.

Re: Teams That Stood Out To Me

1712 -
One team that really stood out to me this year was 1712, DAWGMA. We were on their alliance at the DC regional in 2009, and they were some of the nicest people we'd ever played with. This year, we had a qual match against them at the same regional, in which we were playing defense on them, and, if I remember correctly, we tipped over. Not only did they try to right our robot, but they came to our pit afterward to make sure that our robot wasn't damaged, and if it was, they promised to help us obtain the parts and people to fix it. 1712 is one of those teams that just makes me smile.
