Re: Your Team's Logo
In late December 2005 a bunch of students from Winter Park High School got together after class with the intention of fielding a FIRST team in 2006. (Well most of us had that intention, one of our students who had no engineering or science inclinations was there because she heard we brought a Chick-Fil-A nugget platter, she got hooked and was on the team through her graduation.)
One of the first subjects on the meeting agenda was to decide on a team name, because we didn't have very much time till kickoff we threw out a bunch of names to vote on including some found on a random name generator on the internet. Organized Chaos was the name we decided on followed by a few others including Exploding Bacon. After the vote we decided on a time and place to watch the kickoff and do some brainstorming and then everyone went home for the holidays. Even though the team had chosen Organized Chaos, Exploding Bacon had been stuck in one of our mentors heads and she mentioned it to her mother over dinner one night. Her mother found the name very funny and a little while later started doodeling on her napkin at the table. The pig on a rocket napkin drawing was brought to out next meeting, kickoff, and the whole team loved it so much we had an instant re-vote and Organized Chaos became Exploding Bacon. Initially our colors were black and gold because we had students from multiple schools and we couldn't agree on a color scheme so we took the patten of the local college UCF. The next year we decide on orange and green because it stood out and we couldn't think of any other teams with that color scheme. Now orange and green tend to permiate our lives, we color hair, paint nails, get orange bags, orange and green converse shoes, orange hats, etc. etc. etc. (sorry for the long post, but it's a long story) |

Re: Your Team's Logo
Our school's mascot are Mustangs, so naturally our team is the Metal Mustangs. We have this really amazing Sophomore (Junior next year) on our team who redraws the Mustang each year. It can be seen on our website banner: mmr2410.com

Re: Your Team's Logo
You can see 1732's logo is if you look a little up and to the left (the lettering has actually changed. The current logo does not have "MUHS FRC").
We were uncreative (but original for FIRST) and just used our high school's mascot, the Hilltopper. One of our seniors on the team drew the logo, taking the one of the sports team's logo and slightly changing it to make it look more mechanical. After the first year, we decided we wanted to slightly change it so it would be more applicable to different media (letter-head, t-shirts, website...) and to change the lettering around the logo. While changing it, someone suggested shortening the snout/nose to make it look more like a ram and less like a horse. This is when a junior and one of the most involved students on the team said that he always thought a Hilltopper was horse... I believe our website's banner (http://www.team1732.com/) has the old, 'horse' logo. Last edited by XaulZan11 : 05-05-2010 at 00:29. |

Re: Your Team's Logo
Our team name, the Warbots, is short for Warrior Robotics, named after our school mascot, the Deerfield Warriors. However, that is about it for similarities between our logo and our school.
We have a graphic design teacher at our school who loves the Warbots but is unable to mentor the team for the most part, so he makes the logo. Ours is relatively unique in that each year it slightly changes. Usually there is some form of flaming skull, mostly because it looks awesome, and the color scheme has stayed relatively consistent as well. However, each year the graphic design teacher makes a different logo, relating it in some way to that year's game or our robot. For instance, in 2008, our robot was named 'The Wabbit' because of its appearance and agile drive train. Thus, our logo that year was a Monty Python-esque rabbit on fire. Last year had a flaming skull with pieces of an orbit ball as a headband. This year, we had the same flaming skull with a soccer ball replacing the top of its head. I would attach a picture, but it's too large a file even as a jpg. We are very grateful for this teacher's contribution to the team; each year our logo is awesome looking no matter how good or bad the team does. |

Re: Your Team's Logo
After the team spent nearly the entire build season batting around team names with the requirements myself and fellow mentor gave them, we finally went with one I mentioned in passing. Our requirements were to have something which we could build a theme around, including a chant, cheap costume for teammates that would standout, pit and banner layout, and finally a logo. We decided on Prometheus because it hit all those requirements fairly easily since we stuck to the greek and fire theme, except that we were still logoless. (And we found some awesomely cheap flaming welding hats that went with the theme and use them every year from now on. Another advantage is its easy to spot my students in a crowd with their head gear)
As we were putting the cover on our electronic box for last year's robot it became obvious there would be a great place for an image and so we gave the lexan to the other mentor's kid to airbrush a flaming orbit ball on. (This was Lunacy as our first year) He started with a flaming orbit ball and thought it was ugly and instead did a flaming red ball with a killer grin. We all liked it so much we decided to carry it forward as our logo from then on. This year one of our students even went so far as to make a paper mache head for a mascot which turned out great. We added it to our t-shirts this year as well, and decided that we'd have our mascot play whatever game we were playing. Since we were a looper bot from the get-go and were playing soccer, that is how our Chester robot name came about, and how the t-shirt mascot/logo ended up with bouncing a ball off his chest. :-) |

Re: Your Team's Logo
I asked one of my designer friends in California. He's a locally famous graffiti artist, but he is very good with photoshop and 3D effects.
I know, pretty unoriginal, but I really like the logo. :-) When I worked with him, I said something blocky, some sort of a face, and this what came about :-) ![]() He gave it to me in a low resolution JPEG and vector file but I lost the vector file... I ended up redrawing and recoloring it last summer. The font used in there is Neutra Text from House Industries. |

Re: Your Team's Logo
We're the K Island Gears... Our logo is a gear with a superimposed lighthouse, as per http://1000islandsschools.org/clubs/...s/image002.jpg
It works. |

Re: Your Team's Logo
When Bedford Express was first starting, we wanted something that we could tie into a lot of different themes and such. Our high school mascot (a mule) didnt work out so well for sayings our grandmas would be proud of
lol. So we started exploring other ideas. Some parents suggested a train theme because we could have lots of visible logos (the yellow dot, the railroad crossing, and our X) and we could tie it in a lot. We started with "Engineers on Track" and have since applied the "on track" thing to anything you could think of! haha. We wanted to get our community "on track" as well as our other area FLL teams on track with our team. The colors came from our school color (Red and sometimes black) and the color of a railroad crossing sign (yellow, and sometimes black) So we have the red, yellow, and black Bedford Express! *makes arm X thing* And our train logo was drawn by an art student, we had a competition for a best design, and we got the awesome train we use today! ![]() |

Re: Your Team's Logo
Our high school mascot is a Titan, so Team Titanium came naturally. We have a great local sponsor, Billy Goat (http://www.billygoat.com/site/professional.aspx) who gives us build & storage space, access to their machine shop, welding, power coating, etc. Our students took the eyes from their logo & modified them.

Re: Your Team's Logo
I wasn't on the team our rookie year, but two of my best friends were.
The school held a competition in the art classes to see who could come up with the coolest design and the team voted on it, but in the end the one that was picked was designed by a girl named Ariel who was a senior on the team. This year, to fit the game, the logo was altered to include a soccer ball, but we've stayed pretty close to the original design. On our website is a moving animation of the logo; www.roboteknix.com |

Re: Your Team's Logo
One year, way back when, the robot was named "Grace Hopper" and her profile looked very similar to a grass hopper
so a grasshopper logo was plastered over everything and it became a hit both on our team and on other teams who instantly recognized our robots and it stuck. |

Re: Your Team's Logo
As most of you know, the Buzz Robotics logo is the classic smiley face. Let me iterate how this came about.
I was not around when our logo became associated with the team, however through the help of original members I have been able to uncover the story behind the Buzz. In our rookie year (1996) our robot had a suction cup to aid in its playing of the current year's game (Hexagon Havoc). I am not entirely sure whether or not it was a mentor or student who chose to draw a smiley face on the suction cup, nonetheless it was a member of the team. I was told that at a competition a newspaper photographer took a picture of Buzz 1996, smiley suction cup and all. The picture was later sent us, and recognized and embraced as "Oh, that's cool". Since then the smiley face has stuck with the team. (Hence the suction cup). Just shows how a little doodling on the robot can lead to the creation of such a recognizable logo. Below is a link to our site to view all of our bots. Especially the original, 1996. http://www.buzzrobotics.org/theBuzzBots.htm Last edited by V_Chip : 09-05-2010 at 08:37. |

Re: Your Team's Logo
1997: Team 93 was originally created as Team 107 (never got how the numbers changed... ) AKA A.N.T.S. or Appleton North Technology Students. Aren't we clever... although I have still to see the logo.
1998: The team number changed to 93, with another change to the name and probably the logo that year as well. The name was changed to be the N.E.W. Apple Corps. With a clever change to the FIRST logo, namely, replacing the circle with an apple... We got the basis for our logo, at least, thats what I think happened... |

Re: Your Team's Logo
At Liverpool High School, every sport is the _____ Warriors. Fighting Warriors, Diving Warriors, Cheering Warriors and so on.
Robotics build season takes place during the harshest part of the Central New York winter, and Robotic Warriors just sounded way too generic. So apparently the team voted on Arctic Warriors and it was set. I did hear a rumor that there was a time when the team was going to change the name of the team a few years later, but it never was liked. Arctic Warriors is awesome. |
