Yeah well, that's San Francisco for you. While I hate to dis my home town, They do like to make things difficult and argue about every little thing just to argue. It makes them feel important. It doesn't matter what the issue. there is a strong heritage of activism there (in most of CA as well) and there are some who want to be lauded in the hallowed halls of activism along with Ceasar Chavez (Migrant worker's rights). Activists are treated like royalty there and some are so desperate for it that they don't care who they hurt or whose rights are trampled as long as their rights and preferences are put first and they are sainted in the annals of activism and louded by Hollywood stars and invited to ipmortant functions for being a public star spangled martyr. Sorry guys, but that really hit a sore spot with me. That's why I don't live in California anymore. I admit that I get homesick for the place and family that loves me, but it's so darn overregulated it's rediculous and unlivable in that sense.

Sorry kids from California, it's not your fault it's just the heritage. There are some activists that are doing much good and I honor them. It's just that I've run into too many hypocrites while living there. There are many who want to do great good, but there are many more just trying to ride their glory train. It's really very sad. Now the people involved with first, for example, THOSE are not hypocrites.

I know that Michigan (and other states) has laws regarding segway use, but hasn't banned if from the sidewalks. Until everyone has one, they will think that it may cause accidents with walkers.

I have an idea...
Why don't they just ban guns?

Segways are cool, Chris Daly is not.

Really sad to see this kind of thing happen in San Francisco...

They are already illegal on sidewalks most places.

It would seem like most places, in the US at least, would have to make a special law ALLOWING the use of Segways on sidewalks, as most towns and cities now have laws banning motorized vehicles on sidewalks except for the use of powered wheel chairs by the "certified disabled."

How dumb. Does anyone see the irony in the fact that thousands of people in SF own $100 bikes that they ride faster than 12.5 mph on the sidewalks, but $3000 dollar Segways are banned? If you are going to ban Segways (which are more manueverable and can stop faster than a bike) then they better ban (and enforce the ban) bikes on sidewalks.

I like the fact that "it's only a matter of time before there's an accident" That's hilarious. Cars or bikes are probably more accident prone than a Segway. I mean.. I dunno. It's just an asinine statement. Like anything can be 100% safe and accident free... riiight...

It's to boost their ego and to say "I told you so" when something does happen. Then they can push their agenda more through cort cases and legal measures.

Two parts of the three part goverment has endorsed the Segway, so theres no turring back now...

The trouble with Segways is that you need to relax to stop.

Panic in a car and you slam on the brakes.

Panic on a bike and you fall off.

Panic on a Segway and you can't fall off; you push forward and you accelerate into traffic or hit innocent bystanders ( ).

It's already illegal to ride bicycles on sidewalks in California. Not saying it doesn't happen, but they law's already in the books...
