Re: All NURC Mission Videos UP!

Hey Fredi,

We really enjoyed having a chance to check out NURC in person this year. The event is well run and looks like lots of fun and learning for the teams involved. We definitely hope to be back next year in some sort of volunteer position.

If I understand it correctly, the entry fee is about $300 and a team can purchase an ROV in a box for another $300 or so and be competing.

Can you describe how the build season goes and how it overlaps with the FRC build season?

Re: All NURC Mission Videos UP!

Richard,

It was a thrill to meet you and your family at NURC.

Next year's game will be announced in October and most of us begin design and some building then. As you noticed, a lot of teams are still building in June, so the build season is quite long (compared to FIRST). We really do not do much NURC stuff during FIRST 6 week build season and around competition dates.

You are correct about the costs this year.

The ROV-in-a-Box is a good basic starter, especially the rookie year, to "get your feet wet". When you watch how many ROVs self destruct or perform poorly, a simple, ROV has advantages. Of course, everyone usually adds a feature or two.

Lots of building help in the technical manuals at www.H2Orobots.org and everyone loves to help, share, and chat so feel free to contact us.

Hope to see your family team next June.

Allan

Re: All NURC Mission Videos UP!

I watched a few sections and there was some very neat maneuvering. Is the competition held at night every time or is that specific to this specific challenge? I thought it added an interesting, very real-life twist to the standard robot game/challenge.

Congrats to all that are involved.

Re: All NURC Mission Videos UP!

It has always been held at night for three reasons:

1. Arizona+June = HOT. Much cooler at night.

2. The darkness, like deep water, adds a realistic element.

3. Staying up late (or all night), eating pizza, drinking Mountain Dew (or coffee) --> A PARTY!
