Re: The Top Ten

Normalize the question, otherwise the results are skewed and we can spend days arguing. "Best in the History of FIRST" shouldn't pit 1994 teams against 2010 teams because the dynamics are completely different between then and now.

I'd suggest an era-based approach, for example a 'last 5 years' approach. Dynasty teams from the early 2000's that haven't produced much as far as mult-regional wins, Einstein or CMP awards in recent years shouldn't get love over teams that have for the 'last 5 years'.

Eras:
The old-schoolers ('92-'99) denoting the days before coopertition
The ramp-up ('00-'04) denoting the years before FRC really hit the bend in the exponential growth curve and also introduction of common COTS gearboxes
The newGens ('05-'08) based upon the old control system
GenNext ('09-present) based upon the new control system

Slight correction.
Co-opertition started in '99. (Tecknocats were the last sole champ in '98 and Juggernauts, Delphi Elite and Aces High were the first Co-Champs in '99)
Divisions started in 2001.

That approach mixes things up a bit.

For the years 2005 to 2010

Teams

130 ------ 54 ---------- 6

Note that the 1711-1720 & 1741-1750 blocks only existed for 4 of those 5 years.

It's also interesting that for the 171-180 block of teams, each and every one of the teams remains active.

Wow the FIRST website is terrible for records. You'd think THE organizing body would keep the best records.

Good thing we have CD.

didn't go to VA in 05. 7 regional wins for 343 and we also were Einstein finalsits as well as Championship EI winners in '03.

still going with 61-70 as the best ten

My mistake. The winners at VA in '05 were 401, 435, & 122.

Re: The Top Ten

What about 71-80. I think the teams covered in this range are just as good as the teams from 61-70. We all know about team 71, who still has the most championship victories in the history. Team 78 was in their first year this season, but looking at the success that team 121 had with many of the members that make up the team. One of my favorite teams, 79 is also included in this group. I am willing to bet they are the only team to eliminate the #1 alliance as the #8 alliance in Atlanta twice. Teams 74 and 75 are both well respected, well known, and successful teams in their respective areas.

Re: The Top Ten

I'm glad that a couple of Hawaii teams (359, 368) are helping to keep the 360 group in the mix. I believe that both our teams have about 60 FRC awards since we started in 2000.
Some of the FIRST data is inaccurate and missing stuff. They also deleted any awards prior to 2001. Not sure why.

Re: The Top Ten

You know, when Chris posted the 60s, he forgot one.

64: Gila Monsters (split into 39 and a couple of other teams after the 2005 season)
They only won a ton of awards... culminating with a world finalist. They were a force to be reckoned with out here on the West Coast.

Re: The Top Ten

61-70 is probably the best bracket and 171-180 is the very close second.

Chris is me has the best take on it, (except technicly 174 has 3 FLR wins).

It's really tough to bracket another series of teams.
