[OCCRA]: Interaction with Vertical Poles

“Robots may attach to the hanging bars but may not attach to any other field structures (i.e. walls, platform, field
border materials, or upright structures) at any time. Incidental contact is expected during game play.”
2010 OCCRA Rulebook: Rule GR5

Our team has a question about the above quotation. What is meant by “attach” in reference to the vertical poles in the tower? Can the robot react against the vertical pole but not attach to it?

Re: [OCCRA]: Interaction with Vertical Poles

border materials, or upright structures) at any time. Incidental contact is expected during game play.”

Answer: There are no vertical poles as the rest of the structure is 2 x 4 wood. You may only hang from the pipe that runs between the sides. If you robot rubs against or presses against the sides that is incidental contact. Clamping on to any surface that is not the pipe is against the rules.
