You can modify pretty much everything in the OCCRA kit except the control system and the inner workings of the actuators, whether they be pneumatic cylinders or electric motors. Drill cases can be modified or thrown away entirely if you want to.

yes, our team has part of the casing cut away. You don't even need to use the casing to mount. (It is very useful for mounting although)

you just can't change the motor.

I understand we can modify anything except the inner workings of the actuators, whether they be pneumatic cylinders or electric motors and the control box. I just want to check to make sure we can modify the keyang shaft with the square ends in anyway we want. Am I correct that this is legal?

I think so, and couldn't think or why you couldn't, as long as you only use tools that are allowed for OCCRA.

Jack is right and I want to empasize the part about using legal tools: no mills, lathes, welders...etc. should be used to do the modifications your team desires.
