Role of Team Captain

Is your team captain guaranteed a drive team position each year?
No. I'm a huge believer in servant leadership and having the best qualified person do each job. Just because a person is qualified to lead doesn't mean they will be a good driver. They require two very different skill sets.

What are the responsibilities of your team's team captain?
Everything, as my team jokes "When anything goes wrong, the team captain gets the blame. When everything goes right, we get the credit." We all know it is an over exaggeration, but it is a bit true. As with the President, everything ends with the team captain. Ultimately, he/she is responsible.

How do you form your drive team each year?
Our drivers had to pass two tests. The first was a rule knowledge test (everything from general to little things they may not know) as well as a safety test. More people are "qualified" to drive our robot than the drive team, but this comes in handy when we go out to schools or do demos with Wombot.

What role(s) does your team captain preform on your team?
Last year, everything! This year, things will be different. Once again it comes down to putting the team before yourself and serving them. As a leader, it is your job to make sure the team functions properly.
