Linksys Router (WRT610N V1) Connection Problem

My linksys router Model WRT610N V1 is connected into the modem, and when I try to use the FRC issued laptop and connect to the router. It does not connect so I reset the router, to somehow, fix the problem. Nothing seems to be working, and I was hoping if anyone could provide tips or help to solve the issue.

When you say "the modem" what device are you referring to?

Classmate ethernet port should be connected to one of the router's ethernet ports with an ethernet cable. Check?

Classmate IP address 10.xx.yy.5. Check?

Router IP address is 10.xx.yy.4. Check?

Open a browser on the Classmate and type 10.xx.yy.4 into the address box and you should see the router's setup screen. Check?

Follow the instructions in this document and tell us at which step the problems start.

I connected the router to the main modem, which is plugged into several other computers.

Classmate ethernet port should be connected to one of the router's ethernet ports with an ethernet cable. Check?
i dont understand what you mean by this

Classmate IP address 10.xx.yy.5. Check?
i typed 10.6.40.5. but nothing showed up

Router IP address is 10.xx.yy.4. Check?
same thing for the classmate IP address

Open a browser on the Classmate and type 10.xx.yy.4 into the address box and you should see the router's setup screen. Check?

Follow the instructions in this document and tell us at which step the problems start.

i plugged it into the modem because i tried to connect wirelessly into the router, but it doesnt work. So i connected the router into the modem, and the laptop into the router.

Each of those words has a meaning, but together in the context of an FRC control system they don't make sense.

You've identified the router as the WRT610N, which is fine. That's what came in the Kit of Parts. But we don't know what "the main modem" is. There shouldn't be a modem anywhere in what you are doing. Help us to help you by describing it in more detail than "the modem".

What part don't you understand?

Do you know what the Classmate is?
Do you know what an ethernet port is?
Do you know what "connected to" means?
Do you know what the router is?
Do you know what an ethernet cable is?

Everything you need to do is spelled out in the Getting Started guide.

I have the same problem as RoboElite640. the only way we can move the robot is by plugging the laptop directly into cRIO by using another ethernet cable...

You have a modem too?

Seriously, RoboElite640's main problem at the moment appears to be insufficient experience with network components and connections in general. We can work through it, if we can get good enough answers to specific questions.

Has it ever worked wirelessly since your robot was running on a competition field at a regional event? Remember that the WGA on the robot had its wireless security activated at the regional, giving it a specific security code. If your router doesn't have the same security set up, the wireless connection will fail. Most teams are never given the WPA password, so setting the router to match is not an option.

The solution is simply to disable security on the WGA. Connect a cable from it directly to the router, use a web browser to log in to its configuration page at http://10.18.65.1/ (those middle two octets are specific to your team), and set the security to none.

Re: Linksys Router (WRT610N V1) Connection Problem

i cannot access the configuration page at all though... To answer your first question, it has worked a few times after the competition, however, after that, it has not wirelessly worked at all. I've finally managed to get the router working just yesterday, the bridge is still our only problem...

Then you need to make sure the WGA is reset (use a paperclip to push the button behind the hole in the back) and follow the instructions in the Getting Started guide for setting it up from an out-of-the-box condition.

Okay... but what exactly does that mean? (You must forgive me, I am still very new to this...)
