Re: BaneBots P80 Gearbox
The P80 has its uses, but you need to be careful to not use them to support a cantilevered load and to not exceed 85 ft-lbs of torque in any application. On the other hand, AndyMark gearboxes can take all kinds of abuse. Given the choice I'd use an AndyMark product every time, but if your design calls for a P80 it can be used.
Don't cantilever them. |

A few of the higher ratios are capable of exceeding 85 ft-lbs of torque by a factor of 4 or more when a CIM is stalled. (calculations show that we may have put as much as 400ft-lbs of torque through a 256:1 gearbox) For drive stuff they're alright, especially if you're not running high traction wheels and they seem useful for some manipulators as well, but if you even think you may exceed the 85 ft-lb warning you should look elsewhere... |

Re: BaneBots P80 Gearbox
we have used them and they work alright, the mounting holes are a huge pain though as the plates to support them must be accurate to .001 or they wont fit right.

Re: BaneBots P80 Gearbox
We have used Banebots trannys for all kinds of applications: drive trains, manipulators, everything. We even used the first generation in a dual cim drive train application and they worked flawlessly. We have always supported the output shaft when we kept the shaft at its full length. We have also cut the shaft to size and have used it unsupported. For spaces with short vertical clearance, they work very well. We haven't had the same issues with tight tolerances on mounting plates either. All our pieces are made with hand tools and a drill press. I'm pretty sure we aren't anywhere near +/- .001
