Re: Team 1403 Cougar Robotics Kickoff

A few questions first:
Are these workshops for the day of kickoff?
Who will be attending (students from your team, or students from other teams also)?
What are your goals for these workshops?

I think that you should answer these questions as a team before you begin to plan these workshops.

But anyway, here are some various ideas:
  1. Start with a team meeting (or just a new-kid meeting) to explain what FIRST is, how it works, and what its goals are, this way the kids know, overall, what they are trying to accomplish
  2. Demonstrate how to use some machines (Separate into several small groups for different tools and machines)
  3. Have a brainstorming session with different groups of kids (so you can get completely different and unique ideas)
  4. Explain what each sub-team does during the season

I hope this helps a little!

Yes, these workshops are for the morning of the kickoff.

These workshops are for anyone at the event who would be interested in learning more about those specific areas (so both students from our team and students from other teams).

Our goal is to help start build season for all teams, by going over some basic information in specfic areas such as Mechanical, Autodesk Inventor, & Programming.

If you have any ideas for workshops that you would like to see please post.

Thanks Cyberphil for your ideas!

Some things I'd like to see, or have been to and like to see again:

Mechanical
Electrical
Programming

And something about sub teams and what to do with extra people that end up sitting there, we always have that problem hah. Maybe like a leadership workshop or something?

Just ideas

Re: Team 1403 Cougar Robotics Kickoff

Hmm, lets see...

Within mechanical, because I am assuming mechanical is more of the centerpiece of the workshops, I would split it into a few different sub-groups. Maybe one for the lathe, one for the mill, one for some basic hand tools (Threading, tapping, hack saw, etc) and one for power tools (band saw, sander, chop saw, table saw, etc). It all depends on what you have in your shop and what you want people to know.

Re: Team 1403 Cougar Robotics Kickoff

oh and just wondering, do you have that crowd hyping video that you show before the broadcast from last year uploaded somewhere? I'd just like to see it again, it was good xD. And are you guys doing that again?

32 days to go, and I just can't wait.

Re: Team 1403 Cougar Robotics Kickoff

Hmm, for a crowd hyping video, I would look at these:

2010 FIRST Championship Wrap Video

"FIRST: It's Your Future"

2008 FRC Kickoff Intro

First FRC Promo video

Most of these are old promo videos, but they are some of my favorites! I know I get all excited when I watch these, but I cannot see the world from a non-robotics angle, so I don't know how exciting they really are.

Re: Team 1403 Cougar Robotics Kickoff

Sorry to double post but I emailed a link to our photobucket with all the images you could want, after reading the email sent to me stating you wanted photos.

I hope photobucket was ok, and that you got it, as I never got a confirmation or anything.
