Historically speaking, "frivolous" appears to be a rather relative term.

Considering that they added "please", I think they're getting desperate.

... ... ... I don't see it. However, my browser (chrome) doen't appear to be displaying the page 100% correctly (the "hover over to enlarge" feature isn't working) so maybe that could be related.

I realized that metric crescent wrenches existed, but I always thought that adjustable metric crescent wenches were a 'safe' joke. Now what do I do?

You could always try asking for an adjustable Allen wrench.

Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system

As far as I know, none of these were ever tried, but would make great messages:
1. Team XXXX needs a Delorean, and if anyone has a spare Mr. Fusion, it would be very appreciated
2. Team XXXX needs some lead to patch a leak, and maybe some concrete. Anyone with experience on nuclear reactors would be great.
3. Team XXXX would like some non-functional duct tape
And these last one needs some background information: Our winch system was dubbed by one of our mentors as the hooker. At several points (usually when it was broken or removed) I wanted to go up and ask:
4. Team 1178 needs to find their hooker, anyone knowing its whereabouts please respond.
5. Team 1178 needs someone who can come and fix their hooker

Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system

I really want to request a "Blue Tardis" this year, but I'm the Rules Guru for my team, so deliberately breaking one just seems like a bad example... XD Oh well.

On that note, asking for a Chameleon Circuit would be fun, too.

That actually sounds very useful, has anyone invented these yet? if not, maybe I should. It would probably resemble a six-jaw chuck but with flat projections on the ends. That might actually work

Actually had a team at the Greater Kansas City Regional lose one of their drive buttons. I don't quite remember how I found out, it may have been an announcement, but from a previous year another member on my team(1802) found one of their drive buttons and gave it to me because I collect them. So I was able to give them their drive button back when they needed it most.

I'm volunteering at the GKC regional this year and these posts just made me go change my preferences for where I want to be stationed. My top one is now pit announcer. -crosses fingers- hope it happens.

I worked Spare Parts in 2006 at L.A.--but when the Pit Admin folks left for the day before the pits closed, Spare Parts got to take over for a couple of hours until the pits closed. That's when I pulled the following tricks:

"Team XXXX is leaving the arena. Thank you for doing so, Team XXXX." or
"Team XXX is leaving the area. Please follow them."

Great ways to politely clear out the pits, instead of the classic "The pits are closing. Get out." (I also used the old "The pits are closing in 5 minutes. Please pack up and head for the exits.")
