Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
Don't forget, that 174 will not only be defending their title, but their three-time FLR winner title!
FLR is one of the few Week 1 regionals that provides a Week 5 experiance. About 90% of the teams have seen each other before - it's a very close FIRST family of teams and full of friendships. High energy, loads of veterens and rookies that are always better then the stigma of 'rookie'. But it has to be the volunteers that make FLR so much fun. I have to believe that EVERY volunteer has been a student or mentor of FIRST teams, which is what I think makes FLR so much fun, expecially for volunteers. I can't wait to have the Thunder Chickens return to the frozen tundra of Rochester! You help raise the bar and give us Rochester area teams something to aim for. And for all the teams returning, I wish you all a round of luck as this year just already feels exciting! But the one big question...that everyone is asking...that will make or break how awesome FLR will be...is...will JonDarr Bradshaw return as game announcer? |

Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
Now that we're getting close (only 22 days!? Can that be?
) could you guys please impart some practical information about your little corner of the universe to an out-of-town team? Like food, of course, and what to do in the evenings. The only info we got from our two RIT'ers is that Walpole has more snow than Rochester, which, while important, is not practical; and that I know how to pronounce Skaneateles, which is practical, but not important. ![]() |

Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
RIT is located just off of Jefferson Road... If you leave RIT and hang a right onto Jefferson, you will quickly encounter the magical LAND OF RESTAURANTS. There are tons and tons and tons (and TONS) of places to eat on Jefferson Road, and if you don't want to go that far there are some pretty good restaurants on the northwest corner of campus.
Food at events are run by concession if you didn't preorder. As to what to do in the evenings... Umm... What are you looking for? You can have a LAN party at Millennium Games (which is immediately before the aforementioned magical LAND OF RESTAURANTS, just north of Jefferson road) -- but you'll pay for the experience with cold, hard cash. You could go back to your hotel and compare scouting notes, strategize, etc, etc. What is it that people do during the evenings at FIRST events? I try to get as much sleep as I am able! |

You guys don't even have half the amount of snow Rochester gets (we average over a hundred per year. We're up to 91 inches so far this year). Boston averages around 40ish. It's that stupid snow machine to our North that keep making more of that annoying white stuff almost every day of our winter. There are lots of resteraunts near RIT because there is a mall area very nearby. Sadly both the Knighthawks and Amerks are on the road so go there. Thursday I plan on going to Laserquest so you guys are free to tag along (usually only members of 229 take me up on the offer with a few members from 1511 and others as well). Nothing else really comes to mind for entertainment. |

Ed, If all the rain we have gotten in Providence was snow, we'd be well over that 100 inch mark . But yes Walpole is just west of Boston. |

Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
It's all about location location location. Because we are positioned to the north and west of the lakes we get dumped on while New England is east of the ocean so they don't get as much snow from it (but they do get those nasty Nor'easterners a few times a season).

I think in general it snows more in Rochester by snowing a little bit everyday, whereas in New England, a lot of snow falls during each storm, but storms occur less often. FLR seems like a great regional though with good competition. It's unfortunate the field was down today. |

Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
Field issues appear resolved and practice matches are underway. I was blown away by the first few matches. Didn't expect those scores at all. At alllllllll.
2056 and 217 just missed putting up 4 logos.217 with a quick minibot, 2056 scoring theirs as well. Well over 100 points. Last edited by Justin Montois : 03-03-2011 at 18:20. |

What teams are looking good out there?? How are the chickens (217) doing?
I'm especially interested in fellow Canadian teams 2056, 188, and the others competing there. Last edited by Jonathan Norris : 03-03-2011 at 18:21. |
