2002 drive-train: Who do you think was the best?

Hey everyone!! I was just wondering who you thought the robots were for the 2002 season that had the best:

1. traction (barring file cards)
2. speed
3. combination of traction and speed
4. the best overall drive train

My team, 234, thought that for traction the best team without file cards was Truck Town Thunder. They did a great job.

For speed we thought that the best team was Las Guerillas. Man were they fast.

For the combination this one went to Kokomo for dragging teams and goals across the field by themselves in a Cleveland match.

And for the best drive train out there, we thought that one was the Thunder Chickens.

Great job to all teams!!!

Jessi

1. 68-T3. They were impressive, gotta agree there.
2. 60-Kingman. I didn't get to see them, but heard some insane numbers.
3. 254-Poofs. They had a great sprocket/chain tranny.
4. 71-Beatty. I just liked it. It was so innovative and well done.

5. Best Weight Transfer Drive.
Kingman was good, but I liked 67-HotBot. They were really good with a goal, but without... well... watch the video of when they get stuck in Beatty's gripper...

I wish I could have seen more of these in person...

crabs

I was a fan of the crab designs on 47 and 111 becaus ethey were fats and very manuverable. And 111 also employed a nice second track unit for additional traction.

Besides that i agree with some of the above choices 68 stuck to the ground, kingman was across the field before a single second passes.

For combination of speed traction i have to give it to tean 322 with their amazing 4 speed transmission.

And for best overall drive train its hard to say, i disagree that 71 was the best because their system had several flaws.

As for weight transfer drive i say 67 pushed around an awful lot, i think that a shifting transmission is worth the little extra effort.

Unhappy HEY WAT ABOUT 810!!

LOL, i 4 got that this isn't an anonomous post
But if i had to rate a close second in my general area i would have to give 522 their "Props". I also thought that gearbox wise, the Technokatz had an impressive set-up.

........ I still think that ours was the best especially if u;r talking about tred surface area but thats probably my ego talking.... actually yea it is my ego talking!

How can you all forget SPAM?! That robots drive train is amazing, when they want to go fast they can, and power when they need power. Anyone rember that hit at nationals in the second to last round? they beat beatty to the goal by a longshot! And Last week at the Robot Rodeo they were trying new tread material and they lost a tread, but still were able to push one of the more powerful robots and a goal. They had one of the best drive trains ive ever seen.

Geez, did nobody see the Bearbot?

Quick Stats:

2 Goals
High/Low power switching
Same material for traction as T3 [We pushed them around when we were against eachother]
3 Wheel Triangle design w/ 270º turning on the wheels
28ft Extending Tether

Backside

Tether reaching home

Us pulling T3 so we could keep both goals

But hey, your votes are in =X

My votes:

Traction: 247 - Tooting our own horn
Speed: 469
Combo: 469
Drivetrain: TechnoKats (Of which I saw)

-----

'da Bears & T3 showing how Traction = Win.

Truck Town 68

I just wanted to say as one of the drivers of T3 that we almost certainly had the most traction of any team, however the problem with our drive was that it didn't have enough torque. Never once did we actually "slip" on the carpet. Instead, when there was a large enough force against us the motors would simply be over powered and cause the track to roll back. I still think it was a sweet drive though.

Gadget247- I did notice that you had the same traction but only covering wheels. There was a reason why we couldn't pull away from you in the qualifying matches and it was the same reason we broke in the finals. The reason being that our track slipped off and bound in the pulley. Although this didn't help us any it created a nice brake and that was the reason you were not able to pull us either. We did eventually fix this problem though but it wasn't until the next competition. By the way thanks for picking us to be your alliance partner. I'm only sorry that we couldn't help you enough to get a first place, but second isn't all that bad lol.

1. traction (barring file cards)
2. speed
3. combination of traction and speed
4. the best overall drive train

Traction - Team 61, 71, 469, and 68
Speed - 60 and 118 in high were both fast shifters, for a non-shifter crabber we were pretty quick
Combo - 469 was impressive
Overall - I thought 469 was going to win it

Team 1

I am from team 16, the Baxter Bomb Squad, and at nationals we were teamed with team 1 in a match. They had so much traction that at one point when they were pushed by a VERY strong bot(i think kingman but dont remeber for sure) and the carpet beneath them actually bubbled upwards, and no they were not anchored and did not interfect with the individual carpet fibers

Thanks for the compliment. The whole Beatty thing was a major bummer for us. What happened was beatty's goal grabber actually latched to one of the exposed tubes on our goal grabber. But you're right we were designed more for speed without a goal.
