Re: FIRST Music

I'm just surprised FIRST hadn't written an FRC version of Little Eva's song for Kickoff (which I couldn't get out of my head when that hint came out):

Come on robot, do the Robo-Motion!

I'm rather hoping someone will make a "Y-M-C-A" type dance for the Timeouts that involve forming the three logo shapes. "Triangle! Circle! Square!" rolls off the tongue so nicely....

Re: FIRST Music

These are great! Although I think mountain dew is more accurate than root beer for most teams.

Re: FIRST Music

The original version my team wrote had lots of inside references, but here's an edited "genericized" version I just did

Quote:
First weekend of January, so it’s a new year
Kickoff morning comes, its finally here
The manual’s been released, its always unclear
So read it, just read it

Weight limits loom, often 120 pounds
Don’t wanna cheat the rules, go make your grandmas proud
Inspectors will find every mistake to be found
So read it, just read it

Just read it, read it,
Decrypt with the code and read it
Too many pages, and 10 more each year
But read all the rules, before mounting gears
Just read it, read it
Just read it, read it
Just read it, read it
Just read it, read it

Are Vics allowed, what are the limits of CAN?
What motors can we use, what must the bumpers span?
There's playing size limits, and compliance to plan
So beat it, just beat it

At regionals, you need to play safe and fair
Questions need to go to FIRST for answers
What they said on CD won't help you when you get there
So read it, (but you wanna build fast)

Just read it, read it,
Set aside a day and read it
Too many pages, and 10 more each year
But read all the rules, before mounting gears

Just read it, read it,
Sit down with your team and read it
Too many pages, and 10 more each year
But read all the rules, before mounting gears

~~and so on
With apologies to Michael Jackson

Re: FIRST Music

Darn, there's no way to edit it.
I've actually been unhappy with I Build Bots for a while, so I revised it a bit. Originally I chose root beer because it fit the meter, but the song's so hectic that I think Dew fits in well if I put it this way. Also, trying to censor the swear works when you have a heavy thud in its place, not when you're singing along to the karaoke version. Revised version:

"Yes but what a shame, what a shame that our robot doesn't work."

I chimed in with a "Haven't you people ever heard of
Closing the robo-crate? No!
It's much better to face these kinds of things
With a sense of poise and rationality!"

I chime in, "Haven't you people ever heard of

This calls for a toast, so
Pour the mountain,

Re: FIRST Music

here is my shot
Quote:
Imagine there is no FIRST
its easy if you try
no future engineers
no game for nerds to play
imagine all the students
learning to destroy

Imagine theres more coopertition
gracoius professionals too
more fun to better ourselves
and sweet medals too
imagine all the students
changing the world for good

You may say that Dean's a dreamer
But He's not the only one
We hope someday you will join us
And the world will work as one

Imagine us as together
i wonder if you can
no need for team numbers
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the students
working as just one

You may say that Dean's a dreamer
But He's not the only one
We hope someday you will join us
And the world will work as one

Re: FIRST Music

Here is something we wrote for the 2008 Chesapeake Regional

Quote:
We can't wait to see you and all our "rowdy" friends in Annapolis for the Chesapeake Regional.

... with apologies to Hank!
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FIRST!!!

Well it's Friday morning and we're ready to rock!
Time to get all the hurdles, the laps and the blocks.
It's the Chesapeake regional that's comin' your way.
The Robobees, TJ2, Mort, Hawaiian Kids and the GaCo are ready to play.
We gotta get ready, we gotta go live,
Cause the Chesapeake regional kicks off, so let’s drive!

So get ready. I mean, get ready.
Are you ready for some FIRST?! An Overdrive party!

We've got Dean and Woodie and Dave.
They've gotten it all kick started.
Jenny, George and the crew's all set. The crowd is psyched.
Cause all our rowdy friends are back in Annapolis tonight!

Re: FIRST Music

All of these are great.

I particularly like the nod to Imagine.

Quote:

That is beautiful, Fireball.
Thank you for that.
