Re: Minibots Scoring after Teleop is 'Over'

I suspect this will be resolved by how the field and the elements are controlled, not by whatever the rules say. From the blue box in <G02>:
Quote:
This chase sequence will continue until a MINIBOT TRIGGERS the TARGET, or time expires, whichever comes first. If a MINIBOT TRIGGERS the TARGET within the set time period, the TARGET light will illuminate to indicate in which place the MINIBOT finished.
I would imagine that when the clock hits zero, the electronics that shut off the chase sequence will also shut off the scoring opportunity.

Actually I do believe the rule last year where if a game piece or object is in motion when the timer hits 0, they have 10 seconds to do whatever or until they come to rest like the soccer balls last year. I don't think the field will be able to shut down the mini-bots so if you launch at anytime in the final 10 seconds of the game, you can have, essentially, up to 20 seconds for that min-bot to score a minimum of 10 points.

That's how some of my team-members view it as, but I think that due to <G02>, the minibots will only have the ten seconds to complete the endgame.

This chase sequence will continue until a MINIBOT TRIGGERS the TARGET, or time expires, whichever comes first. If a MINIBOT TRIGGERS the TARGET within the set time period, the TARGET light will illuminate to indicate in which place the MINIBOT finished.

(emphasis mine)

Re: Minibots Scoring after Teleop is 'Over'

This is obviously a perfect Q&A question, but I'm suspecting G68 means that the minibots will have an extra 10 seconds after the end of the match to trigger the tower. There's ample precedent for the GDC letting robots continue moving after the match. In 2007, some pneumatic lifting ramp bots were specifically designed to start lifting 1 sec before the match ended, because the stored air would finish the lift before 10 seconds were up. So I suspect the GDC is going to give the additional 10 seconds and make sure the field is programmed to allow for it.

For those wondering, <G68> states Scores will be assessed when the MATCH ends and all objects in motion come to rest, or 10 seconds elapses, whichever comes first. The confusing thing is that in <G02>, it doesn't specify what the 'set time period' is, yet it sounds, to me at least, that the time period is the final ten seconds of the end game, before the 2 minute 15 second match 'ends.'

Yes, that's the way it was last year, and that's the way those electronics were set up. There was a yellow light above the driver station that stayed on 10 seconds after the timer hit zero, and the ball counter (and DOGMA counter) was active during that 10 seconds.

But notice how the flashing lights are set up this year. The part I quoted before says the lights are active until timer hits zero. I suspect - I don't know, but I suspect - that means the MINIBOT has to hit the trigger before the time runs out, regardless of any rule about objects in motion.
