Expired WindRiver License

The license on our windriver software has expired on all our computers. This is because we are using last year's software. We have the new keys, and we need to know if there is any way to just enter them, or do we need to uninstall/reinstall the software?

Re: Expired WindRiver License

I have the same question! I actually went ahead and uninstalled Workbench [only Workbench, none of the other WindRiver stuff] before installing this year's disk and now we have an issue. When I open the new Workbench, it says the overall license has expired. But when I installed it this morning, the installer indicated that there was already a license present and I did not need to enter one. ...Maybe that was the old one?

Also, I didn't uninstall LabVIEW, do I need to do so before reinstalling?

Thanks for any help you can give!

I think you would have to remove the license files in c:\WindRiver\license before trying to install the new software over the top of last year's. I haven't actually tried this process, but I expect it would work.

The LabVIEW install is unrelated and should not impact your WindRiver install.

Re: Expired WindRiver License

Could FIRST have made this process any more confusing? Once you know what to do it's easy, but getting there should have been made A LOT more straightforward.

When you insert the DVD, the setup.exe runs to open the install wizard. You need this eventually, but if you look at the contents of the DVD there's a FIRST_Robotics_Competition_2011_README_FIRST.pdf. Read that first (as the filename suggests). Why the setup doesn't direct you to that document is beyond me, but knowing that it's there now sure does make things easier.

I installed from the disk last night without knowing about the PDF and was still getting the license errors. After finding the PDF this morning, I ran through the install again, following the proper activation step this time. When it was time for the installer to actually install, it said that it was already installed and that there was nothing to do. On a hunch, I opened Workbench and the licensing issue was resolved.

Thank you! I think I am going to uninstall all the WindRiver stuff I can find: the info on the usfirst website about getting started with the control system here says 'If you have another version of the Wind River Workbench installed, make sure it is not in the C:\WindRiver directory because that is the preferred location for the FRC installation (some of the tools expect that location).'

I asked about LabVIEW because that same page says that the NI DVD has some 'FRC tools' which are required for any programming language to work.

I agree that this does not seem very easy for a rookie programmer [like myself]. Thanks guys for your help.

[Edit] It worked! Yay!
