The LabVIEW install is unrelated and should not impact your WindRiver install.

Thank you! I think I am going to uninstall all the WindRiver stuff I can find: the info on the usfirst website about getting started with the control system
here says 'If you have another version of the Wind River Workbench installed, make sure it is not in the C:\WindRiver directory because that is the preferred location for the FRC installation (some of the tools expect that location).'
I asked about LabVIEW because that same page says that the NI DVD has some 'FRC tools' which are required for any programming language to work.
I agree that this does not seem very easy for a rookie programmer [like myself]. Thanks guys for your help.
