I think I speak for many teams by saying that naming the robot makes building the robot more personal. I think it is also true that we just like naming our robots.

Re: Robot names?

Last years robot started out being named SUE, the Scinario Utilitizing Expert. (Parden my spelling)Somewhere along the line, after we had a huge problem with the drive train, someone renamed it SOO. Same pronunciation, except this time it ment Stationary Object Only. This years is GEORGE, but so far, we can't figure out what it's short for.

Re: Robot names?

I am from Team 313 the Bionic Union and our robots name for 13 years has been Sarbez, it is Zebras spelled backwards since our starting school was the Wayne Memorial High School Zebras. It will and will always be that name till the end of the team.

Re: Robot names?

We name our robot after someone who has had a big impact on our team. Sometimes its a mentor, sometimes a person who inspires us. This year its named after a former team member who is now an electrical engineer and staunch advocate for the DREAM act. Her name is Dulce and the robot is called Dulces DREAM.

Since we're sponsored by purdue, our robot is ROWDY 12 and the minibot is PETE.

Branding, recognition, and it adds some connection to the mechanical beast you just spent 6 weeks of your life with. Plus it's pretty fun to come up with names for your robot. Some teams even go as far as painting or adding stickers to really give it "life".

How can you do this http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/31492 if the robot doesn't even have a name?
