Mecanum Newbie

Last year we direct-drove 8" mecanums off of toughbox nanos with their standard gearing.

My team wants to go with mecanum/omni this year also. no one can really tell you what gearbox is better. it comes down to your robot and what you want to do with it. i would have to double check but i think the cimple gearbox and the tough box both use the same gear ratios. so mechanically it wouldnt make a difference. my team is personally going to use the GEM 2 stage (maybe 3 stage?) gear box if we decide to go with mecanum/omni.

i would personally go with the old touch boxes(or some other transmission with a higher ratio) because they give more torque and that's needed when using a mechanum drive. as far as chaining or direct drive, my experience has made me go for the direct drive so you don't have to deal with chain and since this game isn't going to be terribly aggressive, i wouldn't worry about bending an axle. 1510 is going for a direct drive anyways.

What gives you the impression that this game won't be terrible aggressive?
