free field

anybody want a free animatable playing field? This was designed by our team and was made with the hope of being able to help other teams that haven't got the greatest start on their animation. This field has basic materials and was created entirely in max....it has all the basic parts included in a playing filed...and is quite easy to manipulate.

If you would like to use this field in your animation or for other video purposes please email us

the_direktor@hotmail.com

I will upload the file to anyone on saturday and continue doing so until the animation competition ends.

all we ask is that when you use this field...even if you change the materialing and lighting and add some other functions...you give credit where credit is due.

how do you get the wire mesh to work? My computer starts crashing cuz of all the polygons. I was working with just a bunch of cylinders arrayed then made into a grid. But it's really killing my computer. It slows down to a crawl and I'm about to abandon the idea of actually creating the wiremesh for the animation.

whoa, dont use an array of cylinders, I can see why it would make your computer crash. There are two ways to accomplish this in my knowledge.

1. make a box where the wireframe mesh would be, and apply a material to it through the material editor. Use the check box "wireframe" to make it appear as a wireframe when rendered. Then you have to go to the box and edit the amount of height/length segments there are to make the amount of little wires you need. Just play around with it, I know this works pretty well.

2. The second option I havent tried out, I actually just thought of it and It probably wont work as well, but you could make black/white grid picture and map it as an opacity map in the material editor[edit: on the box that you place where the mesh would be]. I dunno how well this would work though, or if it would be quicker than the wireframe thing.

Oh yeah, that playing field was created in version 2.5 if it seems a little outdated materialswise.
