Re: pic: 1781 Chassis 2014
I'm starting to really like the idea of mounting the electronics on the underside of the robot, it gives easy access to the components without having to reach through mechanisms.

Ya when we saw team JVN do that we thought it was pretty sweet. We also made the railings for the wheels a lot closer together this year for even easier access. I believe there's only a 2.75" distance between them.

Quick question about your drivetrain: Why are you opting to place pulleys on the outermost plane? if you swapped the white wheels and the pulleys connecting them, you would achieve even better turning, unless you have a specific reason for mounting them in this way?

What's your ground clearance between the floor and the bottom of the sonic shifters? It looks awfully close...

Re: pic: 1781 Chassis 2014
Yes it is pretty close. I believe the clearance is 0.5". We decided to mount our frame onto polycarbonate this year so no static electricity that builds in the frame due to the Sonic Shifters will mess up any of our electronics.

Has this been an issue for you in the past?

Re: pic: 1781 Chassis 2014
Remember that with your electronics upside down, the only thing holding your breakers in is friction. You do not want your Digital Sidecar breaker falling out during an elimination match.

Re: pic: 1781 Chassis 2014
No not us personally. We have however spoken to a few teams where this has happened to them. The shifters are too high to rub against the carpet, but the polycarb is just reprecaution

Re: pic: 1781 Chassis 2014
As hard as it is to push those things in and pull them out I doubt this would be an issue.

Re: pic: 1781 Chassis 2014
Ya we're thinking of ways to keep them from falling out currently. Even so the breakers seem to be in there pretty well.

Repeated blows over several matches will cause repeated vibrations. Repeated vibrations will cause the breakers to fall out eventually. As I said before, you do not want your breakers falling out during an elimination match.

Re: pic: 1781 Chassis 2014
If I remember correctly we mounted our PD board upside down on our bot for Breakaway and made it through 2 regionals and an offseason competition without a single breaker budging. It is a risk assessment you'll have to make for yourself.
