Making this into a C-Channel would allow for the bolt pattern to be carried to the perimeter of the frame (as well as increase the strength of the part). I could see this helping a number of teams.

We made these small (5" long) versions of the same concept to reinforce the corners. It is amazing what a difference they make to the stiffness of the outer plate. Even putting one on each corner.

Since I was worried about impacts causing the torqueing of the frame I made the bumper mount go back to the tub part of the chassis. The rules are not as particular about limits on the design of the mount and this was a easy way to get a flush top surface. Does anyone think the inspector will see it differently?
