These were printed on our Makerbot Replicator 2 with pla, if anyone was curious.

On what settings did you print? Also, do you know where you sourced your plastic from? I doubt the plastic supplier matters much, but there's a chance that there will be some differences between prints from different suppliers' plastics.

Re: pic: Clippard Air Tank Mount

We printed some Clippard tank mounts last year with our Replicator 2, and they do work rather well, but keep in mind they are very brittle compared to the provided mount material...I'd recommend having spares, and possibly even a plan B.

^THIS^

Even though this year there is no defense; without bumpers running into your alliance partner can cause some fairly hard shock to that mount.

The last thing I would want to see is a charged high-side plastic air tank bouncing around in a robot.

Re: pic: Clippard Air Tank Mount

We are using PLA from makerbot, i do not know the settings of the top of my head. I do believe it is a 10% infill.

Thanks for the warning. We will be bringing numerous extras. To test them we mounted it to a piece of plywood, then we proceeded to drop it and hit it with a hammer. It held up!

Re: pic: Clippard Air Tank Mount

I don't know if I would use PLA or ABS to make a mount like this. As stated above it can be quite brittle. You can find different versions of PLA and ABS with additives to make it less brittle, but If your printer can handle 300 celcius than buy a roll of PolyCarbonate. It would make a much better mount.

Re: pic: Clippard Air Tank Mount

Yes PLA and ABS are both brittle when compared to other substances. As Owen said though these were dare I say abusively tested to make sure they'd hold up. Additionally they are kept inside our robot perimeter... We will report back after the season with how they held up.

Re: pic: Clippard Air Tank Mount

Mmmm... Always thought zipties were the proper way to mount air tanks... Well these look pretty, we're going to need some air tank mounts, gonna pass this along to the CAD guys, probably print at a higher infill.
Thanks!
