Thank you for the comments. I will definitely thicken the lightening pattern. I purposely designed the swerve module to fit with a WCD because I am also trying to design a simple/robust frame design that can easily be manufactured to work with 6 wheel tank, 8 wheel tank, swerve, mecanum, omni, and H drive. It is currently designed to accommodate wheels up to 6in in diameter. I am also trying to add drop-down omnis is for drifting and getting out of T-bones(inspired by 118 2014 robot). The frame would have the holes for all of these configurations and we can easily pick one to quickly make. I hope to pitch to Vexpro or Andymark because it seems like an ultimate "drive in a day" chassis that has so many options. I will probably post more when I finish with some of the configurations |

Is this necessary? With an omni directional drive, you should be able to just strafe away from your opponent. This just sounds like added complexity and weight.

Re: pic: Concept Swerve design
That's if we go with a tank drive. I just thought it would be something cool to have if we want. Also whenever I drive mecanum, I just used the wheels to drift into tight places or get out of pins

Re: pic: Concept Swerve design
Looks pretty good. I'm wondering about that thrust bearing at the top. Is it only going throug one plate, or is there another one that we can't see? With the wide shoulder your bearing has it might be okay, but keep an eye on it, and maybe add mounting holes for an upper plate just in case something goes wrong.
As other have said, your lightening pattern is too aggressive. I would also add another bolt to mount it on the siderail, as the lower-right bolt is only secure by the bottom of the 2x1 there, which is only secured by a gusset plate or bellypan, so it will move around. |
