Re: pic: 870 Motor Mount

Ive gotta question... Why is that chain so close to the floor? Did that cause any problems?

But nice mounts for the motors. Are those U-bolts the only thing holding it on to the rest of the robot?

Wink Re: pic: 870 Motor Mount

Ok All! Now that you have a look at the drives lets give you some pros and cons from our 870 drive system.

This complete drive system was manufactured on a cheap hand operated import $900 mill and NOT A CNC. This means if we can do it you can also with a basic mill. This is our best design and lightest weight thus far for using the drill drive set up.
Pros:
* The motors always ended up cooler at the end of a round than at the beginning due to great heat transfer/cooling.
* The mount is held totally in place with one u-bolt allowing for fast removal if needed. ( We never had to remove or do any repairs to the drive system at the regional or Atlanta!)VERY DEPENDABLE
* The design allows for almost any orientation in a bot.
* The strength of the system supporting the drill transmission allows for extreme side load and end load if necessary.
* The design allows useing the threaded drill end if desired or if needed a custom shaft as we did can be machined to fit into the drill dogs.(that is another internal pic of the system)
* The design once removed from the bot requires removal of the six socket head bolts and splitting the bracket for fast drop in parts replacement.

Cons:
* Time to make one drive mount appx: 5hrs
* precise machining is a must( put your best millers on the task)

The mount incorporating only the aluminum portion is .7lbs .
( This is the lightest ever!

just add the six socket head bolts and it will still be under 1 lb
