Re: pic: 857 "tetra cannon"

shooting tetras, huh? very interesting. may be a bit difficult to get them all to go on right, but overall i can see it as a winning design. the ball-launching bots in 2002 worked pretty well.

just remember, with power comes responsibility. one wrong move and you could end up capping one of the judges that will pretty much ruin your chance at judges' award

Before we get a bunch more posts talking about launching/shooting/tossing tetras... It doesn't. We just think it looks like it could.

That's a lot of weight to carry. I'd really like to see it in action!

The car door opener is legal but the inspectors will spend the whole day coming to that conclusion. That's what happened to us last year at least. =P

Re: pic: 857 "tetra cannon"

I think that the arm in the picture will not be able to cap goals. I think they are looking to score points without capping...they might be thinking they can get 3-5 tetras loaded on that and dump them under a goal in the time it takes to get 1 tetra on top of a goal. And with the tetras stacked so nicely on the arm, they should fit under the goals nicely. That would be a great partner with two good capper robots...if it does what I think it does.

Re: pic: 857 "tetra cannon"

It looks to me like the whole stack gets pushed up the tower, and when one reaches the top it "rolls" off onto the goal. Is that accurate? Very solid looking machine.

It's an (unconnected) 200 lb. gas shock (spring). The other 200 lb. gas shock is holding the arm up.
