i love the sheet metal. AWESOME!

It might be because of last year's robot.

Cause we did the same thing this year. Used Monocoque construction. It's 0.40 thick Gold Plated Aluminum. There is no "frame" per say, just channels. Like how an airplane fuselage is made.

We buy it from Sherman Racing. He is a race car body guy.

We got it for $75.00 for a 4 x 10 sheet.

Re: pic: Team 1501 Real Deal

I like how the ball collector looks like a magazine on a gun (even curved so the balls dispense faster). Very aesthetic. Make sure you polish it before competition!

Re: pic: Team 1501 Real Deal

Looks nice, but due to the nature of the compitition this year (hitting is allowed) that design seems EXTREMELY prone to being tipped.

I want to make a monocoque chassis from a plywood core and laminated glass/epoxy skins (cause I've built boats like that, but I don't know from rivets). Alas, my teammates are transfixed by aluminum structures, and all I can do is dream of the organic shapes that might have been. Is it bad to think of starting a new FIRST team just to have more influence over the materials and methods selection process?
