good design, but couldn't you just use a couple pieces of angle, long, thin bolts and Velcro tie down straps and save a pound or so

The clamp is aluminum and weighs almost nothing and the angle is fiberglass and weights almost nothing. I think velcro can come loose, thin bolts can bend. If you have done before then I guess ours is overbuilt.
