I'll have to ask a few of the guys at work who worked there or worked with them through their professional careers about this discovery.
(I work at a place where we make cable assemblies, connectors, and antennas. We have a lot of good people from the cable & connector industry workin' with us.)

1) I could be wrong, as I don't have the board in front of me.
2) I encourage you to pull up the data sheet online and confirm.
3) KK Friction Locks are used EVERYWHERE.

I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but I will be very impressed if that piece of information leads to anything. It tells you about as much as knowing what model of PIC is on the board.

This seems to match.

Good in high vibration applications

Seems to give a strong case for the "goes on the robot" argument.

But, now comes the big question.
What's the mystery cable going to that this component is going to be used for?

Typically these type of connectors (from what I can gather) are used for power supplies on computers.

Possibly we can adapt these with the Ribbon cable provided via a crimping type mate housing: http://www.molex.com/catalog/pdf/MX2695.pdf
