Drive Team Practices

I'm curious to know if you or your drive team have any special rituals or procedures before quals or before competitions. For example, I know that our former drive team used to give themselves back rubs because it lightened tensions and helped them relax a little before a qual. Lemme know if you have any other weird practices on your team!

Re: Drive Team Practices

For the past 5 or 6 years now, the desktop background of out drive station has always been the heavy breathing cat image for good luck. We even used to add it to the smart dashboard as well.

Re: Drive Team Practices

A few years back Apple Pi started meditating before matches, but we say ohm rather than om, to build up resistance to the opposing alliance.

Re: Drive Team Practices

2017 and part of 2018 we had a little tradition. During playoffs on Tesla in 2017, we found NavX on the field, ran over most likely by ourselves. When switching between practice and comp bot, somebody forgot to screw it back down. We never put it back on the robot due to pins contacting each other and most likely shorting out. Before every match after that, we decided to press the reset button, hoping for some reason to give us good luck. We ended up advancing to Einsteins. We continued to do this atleast during 2017 off season but I believe we straightened the pins and used it on the practice robot this year.

Re: Drive Team Practices

During the 2018 season, 2869's drive team would do deep breathing to calm ourselves down before each match.

Usually we do a pre-match huddle and end with *Break!*. Back when I was a student, I would listen to Taylor Swift specifically "Shake it Off".

686 Bovine Intervention has a pretty cool ritual they do with their alliance partners before they start a match.

Someone from our drive team drank maple syrup before IRI as a joke that it would increase our chances of being picked by 1114 or 2056. We ended up getting picked by 2056

While in queue for a match, my team always plays chopsticks for both relieving stress and good luck.

In 2017 we had a squeaky dog toy zip tied to an air tank that the drive team and pit crew would squeak before each match. In 2018 everyone knocked on a plate on the climber that had our team logo etched onto it.

Re: Drive Team Practices

I start jumping and the other driver just watches me, then together with our head coach, we make a sort of handshake
