Swerve Drive in the Real World..?

Today my company (and one of our sponsors) made public some plans to redesign some of our equipment to what appears to be swerve drive.

Thought it was neat.

Wonder if there are other machines in the real world that are swerve?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ekl0XT3y6rM&t=1m0s

Unfortunately for me, this won't affect the products I work on.

Moves amazingly. But so ugly!

So I found this Goodyear video of a spherical tire attached to the car with magnets--something like swerve.

I seem to remember there was a sci-fi movie with cars that had spherical tires, but I can't seem to remember which movie?

Kudos to the first team that builds a spherical wheel mag-lev robot.

I, Robot? Edit: it's actually mentioned quite a few times in the comments of the video you linked.

Re: Swerve Drive in the Real World..?

The local steel company (and sponsor) has a couple of these Paling Transporters which make runs up and down the street all day long. The front and back axles are pivot for sharp corners, and they're mounted in swerve pods so that they can put as many axles as possible to distribute the load:

In our defense we had to add the body to the robot as an afterthought. The structure underneath wasnít designed with a body in mind.

I agree it isnít Lamborghini styling...but it is completely custom and 100% 3D printed.
