I wasn't technically on the team at the time--my dad was mentoring, and I'd occasionally hang around the shop.

But then 2005 happened and the rest is history. A great game AND 3 vs 3? We never looked back.

And what about 4 v 0? People thought Lunacy and Recycle Rush were bad. The first event I ever attended was a Michigan off-season event playing Diabolical Dynamics. Zone Zeal seemed like the best game ever compared to that.

In summary, yes veteran mentors are probably out of touch because that's what happens when you get older. At least we can bond around memes.

Triple Play was AWESOME. Then Aim High happened, and I truly got the spark of happiness from Robotics. Triple Play was a fun mechanical challenge, but the first vision target?

That changed it all for me.

I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.

Triple Play technically had a vision target on the vision tetras... but nobody could do it. I think that tetra was only scored a handful of times purely by luck since it was placed randomly in certain locations.

But Aim High's brightest vision target ever was way better and saw way more success. Some of the simpler old games were just really fun and easy to digest, something that has sort of been lost lately since we've entered the theme era.

There was the IR beacons in 2004 as well.... Not the truest sense of the word vision target, you could still use the robot to see it...

Man, you guys are hitting me right in the feels.

Any of you young whipper-snappers remember assembling the first KOP chassis?

How about when VEX was still IFI Robotics, bent sheet metal wheels were the new big thing, and FTAs were simply referred to as 'the ifi guy.'

Hey man, those original CMUCams were hard AF to program.

My favorite part of the vision tetras was the fact the CMU cam would lock onto the cream colored volunteer shirts at CMP as frequently as it locked onto the green vision targets.
